Ive been listening to these clips over the last week. Seems like D'Angelo lacked drive.
I was kinda shocked to hear she was the driving force behind his first album. I was also shocked she wrote Sugar Hill Gangs records..
Its funny she said he was an overweight dude but by the time we saw him, he was transformed and cut up.
Yeah, which in a way, makes sense when you think about
look at the time periods between each of his albums: Brown Sugar was 95', Voodoo was 00' and then Black Messiah was 2014. long stretches of time.
but yeah, Angie is a great songwriter in her own right. and it make that they worked together so well in the beginning.
Angie was already an established writer when D' was working on Brown Sugar, so she knew how put the finishing touches on the songs/albums
yeah, D'angelo was slightly overweight in the beginning, he just wore baggy clothes to cover it up
check out this live performance of Brown Sugar, Angie is one of his background singers, she's the woman with the short cut
