Didn't check up on the funeral stuff, but I think he should have gone to at least support their kids.

I would have went there and stood with the son…

It ain’t like the son was trippin if he came.

At the end of the day, Angie deserved better.

Her love life was meh and her career was sabotaged

Then he went to muttering and mumbling on Black Messiah.

This..............

Love Black Messiah, however my major issue with that album is his vocal track is so damn low it's practically drowned out on every song. Voodoo will always be my #1 by him with Brown Sugar right behind.

Yeah, which in a way, makes sense when you think about

look at the time periods between each of his albums: Brown Sugar was 95', Voodoo was 00' and then Black Messiah was 2014. long stretches of time.

but yeah, Angie is a great songwriter in her own right. and it make that they worked together so well in the beginning.

Angie was already an established writer when D' was working on Brown Sugar, so she knew how put the finishing touches on the songs/albums

yeah, D'angelo was slightly overweight in the beginning, he just wore baggy clothes to cover it up

check out this live performance of Brown Sugar, Angie is one of his background singers, she's the woman with the short cut

First time I heard him was at the end of the Black Men United: U Will Know on the Jason's Lyric Soundtrack which was like 94. B-McKnight shouted him out to sing it & he riffed it out at the end of the song. He also performed it live with everyone in 95

Ive been listening to these clips over the last week. Seems like D'Angelo lacked drive.

I was kinda shocked to hear she was the driving force behind his first album. I was also shocked she wrote Sugar Hill Gangs records..

Its funny she said he was an overweight dude but by the time we saw him, he was transformed and cut up.
D'angelo was overweight right after the album voodoo too stayed out the spotlight

entire album is mixed like ass. instruments are low too. D always needed someone to wrestle his rough cuts out his hand and polish them. when he is left to his own means you get black messiah. before he had quest, angie, raphael saadiq all helping flush out the vision

but to me brown sugar is still his most accessible album it's good rnb but it's not touching voodoo or the best parts of Black Messiah

Ever thought that was sort of intentional on his part?

Hard to say, however after listening to BS and Voodoo there is a significant difference in the clarity of the vocal tracks on those compared to BM. Angie mentioned this in one interview about that album, someone convinced him to mix the vocals just like that. She said she would have never let that fly.

:to:Sad to see that their relationship fell apart, we missed out on many potential classics if they'd patched it up in between that long time period.
