Yeah I used to reside Upstate and know Rochester well. One of the poorest and most depressing Black communities I knew of. At least in some cities you have a Black middle class in the burbs. Not really in the Roc. It used to be a big Xerox and Kodak (and their suppliers) town and now has probably one of the highest Black male unemployment rates in the country. Sad because Frederick Douglass is buried there.
I use to live down the street from his FD home. Rochester is really rough and depressing. Met some of my closet friends there but most of them knew to get up and move out or around. A lot of the Black Americans friends I have, have roots in NC. A good 10% relocated there after college

Every professional breh I knew in Rochester that wasn't from there has left. This was before the recent issues. There just isn't much there. It is also the only city I have ever been to where the professional brothers complained about finding enough quality Black women to date. They weren't wrong. Outside of the colleges the professional class is super small there.

What is your solution to the crime wave?

There is no solution for this wave of crime, we're already experiencing it. Any solutions must address the root issues like miseducation, poverty, housing insecurity. Problem is, those solutions take TIME, to implement and pay dividends. People that are on the wrong side of this crime want immediate solutions, you can obviously see the problem when you consider those two things.

Be sure to remind the people Iiving there that although they're experiencing record setting crime, crime is still trending downward nationally.
People that say that are either indenial or Live in heavily gentrified areas (l.a., n.y.c, the bay area, Seattle etc) so their perception is skewed,

then you have the few that grew up during the crack era and lowkey wanna still maintain bragging rights for lack of a better term. :yeshrug:

Most people don’t care about any of that and want more “aggressive” policing do you agree with that idea?

Of course not, as I've said in many threads about similar topics, more aggressive policing will disproportionately impact Black people, many of them will be law abiding citizens, but there are many people that are so fed up with dealing with crime that they're willing to accept that as a risk.

Your reaction is a common reaction to people that hear this. It's because most people believe the Defund The Police movement was largely successful. This actually works to law enforcement's benefit because people are assuming that any upticks in crime are related to police departments being defunded and right leaning departments are actually leaning into this narrative (because it benefits them)

The population should have increased during that time so the murder rate would be less

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.

Rochester is a rust belt city that has been losing population for some time now like most rust belts. It also has less people today than the year it has its previous high back in the 90s
