I think some people are forgetting that Biden blocked it while hoping to find an American based purchaser like Cleveland Cliffs in Indiana. U.S. steel as is will fail.
The issue is if there is no backup, the worst that can happen is Trump blocks the deal and does nothing for U.S. Steel in the aftermath so someone else can snatch them up and screw the union out of all they have earned. There is a balance to be found so while some didnt want the sale, a bunch did so they could have security. Japan has an incredibly close relationship with the USA so in a lot of folks minds its fine. The workers have to be protected and national security is a concern so this situation in the wrong hands can blow a lot of shyt up.
