And every single one of those guys WANTED the crown. You also had AI, KG, Dirk, T-Mac and even Wade later who were gunning for that crown of being the top guy in the league after MJ.
Being the best player and the face of the league are 2 different things.

Jokic is the best player in the league but doesn't want to be the face of the league.

Dude just wanna hoop and ride his horses

LeBron & Steph on the last stages of their careers

Same reason there was an obsession over finding the next MJ when his career was winding down

After Jordan retired
I remember Grant Hill being pushed early, and he was a legit star. Shaq was a big star, but he was a center. His teammate Penny was even more popular. I remember the obsession with finding the next Jordan. Even Stackhouse was in that convo with his UNC connection. Vince was another one. Kobe had the comparisons (and ultimately came the closest), but Kobe didn’t have that same love because people initially viewed him as an imitation. Iverson didn’t get that push, but he became the most popular player as someone who didn’t want to wear the suits, play “the game” and just be himself.

Jokic has multiple brand deals and is in new commercials every season. I don’t think he has a problem being the face of the league, he just has a chill, don’t give a fukk personality. How many commercials did you see Tim Duncan in? I think Tim had a Nike deal and that’s the only brand deal I can think of. Tim wanted to hoop and go home, Jokic not like that. See his offseason shenanigans in Serbia every year for example.

Loser mentality. He's cut from the same cloth as Rashard Lewis and Tobias Harris, just more way more talented.

Mike, Bron, Kobe, Magic, Bird, Shaq, etc. all those guys wanted to be the face. He will not get to that level, no way.
...hell naw....SHAQ and MAGIC yes, but Larry Bird might have wanted the limelight less than any nba star ever lmao. Kobe and Jordan just wanted to be the BEST.

I totally disagree about Bird. He was part of the rivalry, but Bird just wanted to hoop and go home to his farm or whatever.
