Likely a deal he worked out with the prosecutors in the months since October last fall, when it was revealed he was under federal investigation. You come in, get booked, plead guilty right away, probably looking at 6-12 months, at the most. Allows for minimum press, and an easy, seamless process, compared to an indictment, followed by a drawn out process of working out a deal. Also allows the US Attorney's Office to get their guilty plea and press release.

Truly a shameful and fascinating fall from "grace" and stature, I mean his wife was Huma Abedin, and he was once a powerful political figure in his own right. Now, he's a registered sex offender, that even those plush, high salary consulting jobs will be harder to come by, if even possible.

Also, this should dismiss rumors that the girl wasn't real and it was ops by Russian assets.
