I use an umbrella. If you want to walk in the rain in your hoodie like some kind of misanthrope that's on you. At this point in my life I wear moleskin blazers and highline Italian shoes, not exactly stuff I would like to get wet if I can avoid it. But If I'm off and not going far, I can take it or leave it.

I only use it if the rain is heavy. If it's a slight drizzle I don't. I actually do like walking in the drizzle.

And just to complete this lesson in an attempt to erase this ignorance, you can breathe in 200 (arbitrary high number) viruses in any given day, if you've already encountered & fought off all 200 of those viruses, you're not gonna get sick, at all. Your body will forever save the antibody when it makes one to naturally fight off an illness. Ever notice we catch less colds the older we get?
:ehh:

:jbhmm:then how come u cant catch chicken pox twice but u can still get the flu/cold?

Flu / cold viruses are constantly evolving & modify their DNA coding. When you get sick, your body produces an antibody that will always destroy any foreign invader that matches that exact DNA code. Think of it like a "lock & key" system. When you're invaded by a virus who's DNA you don't have an antibody for, you get sick so your body can destroy the virus and create that specific antibody. Yes, getting sick is not what the cold virus does to you, it's your body telling you to go sit down somewhere so your energy reserves can be used by your immune system as it kicks into overdrive to save your ass :smugfavre:

Why do we only get chicken pox once? The Varicella-Zoster virus that causes it doesn't evolve like the cold / flu virus does, and if it does it's changes are so negligible the antibody stored in your body when you were just a few years old will fight the virus successfully until your final day.

impressive stuff, u really attended ur biology lesson:obama: even though u a bit rough on the sides (highlighted), when you feel sick its ur body trying to get rid of the invading pathogen by raising ur temperature and recruiting immune cells at the site of infection (inflammatory response, see also chemokines). all pathogens have different surface protein and these are the proteins (antigens)that activate the production of antibodies specific to that pathogen by immune cells called B cells. during this whole process, because many B cells are produced during a process called antigen presentation, some of them become memory cells and they keep all the information about said pathogen incase u get re-infected..when u do then antibodies will be produced faster than the first time u were infected etc. in some cases other adaptive immune cells such as T cells, NK cells are recruited to fight off the infection etc.

anyway depending on whats affecting you, allergy, virus, bacteria etc different cells are involved (innate immune cells) at first before before antibodies are produced.im typing on my phone so the moral of the story is get urself an umbrella coz those old women knew what they were talking about and i trust them:salute:

Do people (some, not all) in this thread understand that something inorganic like the weather, or contact with water, CANNOT get you sick by itself?

Do people understand that illnesses are brought on by microscopic organisms that invade your body and throw your homeostasis out of whack?

My brehs & brehettes, it's 2015, stop with this stupid sh!t of not understanding how the natural world around you operates...

Yes we tend to get sicker in winter because the air is dryer which makes the mucous membranes dryer thus increasing the chance of something entering the body to give you that work. But to be on some "you'll catch a cold because you're underdressed in the cold" is such a wrong conclusion it's mind-boggling that people still roll with advice Wilma Flintstone was dishing to Pebbles in 1965 :mindblown:... we get colds in summer & spring too last I checked.

Ya'll need to listen in biology class or some sh!t, too much mumbo-jumbo gettin spat around here
Some of us just don't want to stink of mildew. Rain water is disgusting.
