Being black and male won't hurt you at all. I know plenty of black dudes who are male nurses who didn't have any trouble getting hired. That's how I became interested in nursing was seeing dudes who looked like me doing it while I was working at a state hospital. GPA isn't a big deal until you"re trying to get into programs like CRNA because it can be limited slots and competitive. Focus on getting high grades in courses like A&P I & II, Microbiology, Psychology, English Comp. 1 & 2. They really just look at your grades in those core classes and what you make on your ACT. I believe all you need is college algebra if that. Math in nursing isn't complicated all you need to know is basic math add, subtract, multiply, divide, fractions, decimals etc. I did a 2 year program for my ADN. It only takes a year and half to bridge it into a BSN degree. There are different ways to look @ the situation though breh. If you grades are kind of messed up make sure you apply for the LPN program as well. LPN program doesn't require A&P 1 & 2, Microbiology and all that other stuff. You can take a HESI entrance exam and have a shot at getting in. LPNs have bridge programs that let you skip the whole first year of the ADN program so you only have to do the 3rd and 4th semester if you're already an LPN. Hope that helps breh good luck.
