Any of y'all feel like advanced stats are ruining sports now?

i was cool with the sabremetrics in baseball, because of all the variables in the sport.... but advanced stats in other fukking sports are just

people started bringing up PER,PPR and TSS% in fukking sports arguments, and talking about how 1,000 yard receiving/rushing seasons isn't really an accomplishment, cause that's only 62 yards a game...and that's nothing.

then Lionel Hollins getting into it with Hollinger over fukking mathematical equations and wanting to play moneyball was when i knew that shyt had went way too far.

The worst part are the people reciting these statistics without really even knowing what they mean. If you are going to bring an advanced stat into the argument, understand what it's about. People talkin bout PER and etc. without ever making it through high school

Established stars remain on the top even when advanced stats are analyzed, so the benefit of advanced stats as I see it is finding those diamonds in the rough...dudes who deserve more credit for what they bring to a team.

Is this really an advanced stat? It really isn't an accomplishment when you think about it. When guys did it in 12 or even 14 game seasons that's one thing but is 62 yds per game really noteworthy for someone who gets 15-25 carries per game?

For advanced stats to be truly effective/reflective and work (as much as stats can possibly be) in basketball, they have to go past the equivalent formulas used in SABRmetrics for baseball.

None of this: +/-, EFF, PER, TS%, OTRG, DTRG etc etc. shyt like that really has no place in the game.

Even though more information is in itself inherently good and I'm all for breaking down the impact/strengths/flaws in the game - I don't see the information being used appropriately with the above metrics. You can't quantify statistics through a strict one-size-fits-all metric, because the formula has to keep in tune (forever changing) with the variables: role, circumstance, position, progression, situation, teammates, opponents, schedule - basically everything that can be somewhat be measured by numbers.

1. Babe Ruth, 1.1638
2. Ted Williams, 1.1155
3. Lou Gehrig, 1.0798

5. Jimmie Foxx, 1.0376

You could have come up with this same list before anyone knew what OBS was and been taken serious.

nah, advanced stats has been good for sports. It has exposed a lot of frauds. of course stats aren't the end all be all but they tell you a lot about players.

When you think about how the NFL is pretty much devoid of slow white boys,is pass happy and athletes now are far superior to ones back in the day... it's actually harder to crack 1,000 yards.
