You've been to the Bay but you dont live here, and yet you're telling me about the weather, when I've lived here my entire life?

ok.

Does is get cold in the Bay? Does it get hot in the Bay?

Actually don't answer that. I got it for
you.

"Tropical' to cold as new storm hits Bay Area

A weather pattern flip of sorts is underway, as a cold front from the Gulf of Alaska moves into Northern California on the heels of the wet, warm tropical storm(a.k.a. an atmospheric river) that drenched the Bay Area for 48 hours. Temperatures are expected to drop swiftly, putting hail, thunderstorms and low-elevation snow into the forecast. Rainfall totals and humidity levels will be much lower with this system compared to the atmospheric river event. The frigid system is pumping cold air into the region and temperatures in the atmosphere overhead are much cooler than those at the surface. This can lead to convection and thunderstorms. "

Dog Dies While in Care of Pet Sitter Found With App

"Dog Dies While in Care of Pet Sitter Found With App

An Oakland couple is devastated after dropping off their pet dog at a sitter they found using an app and then discovering the dog died less than 12 hours later.

Emily and Christian Pelipada used an app called DogVacay to find a dog sitter for 6-year-old Pippen while they took a trip to Chicago to visit family. Hours after dropping off the dog on Aug. 10, they received a call from the sitter, telling them Pippen had died along with another dog after both were left in a hot car outside a dog park."

"VACAVILLE (KRON) -- A dog died on Tuesday afternoon after being left in a hot car in Vacaville, according to police.

Officers were called to the area of the outlets at around 5 p.m. Authorities found a French bulldog in the hot car for an "extended period of time."

The owner, who was shopping at the time, told police she parked the car in the shade and left the windows partially down.

Temperatures inside the car could have been over 120 degrees, police said.

"Parking near a tree and cracking a window is simply not enough," police said on Facebook.

The owner was arrested and charged with animal cruelty."

I just don't get the concept of owning a dog.

Maybe it's the Nigerian in me. We Nigerians are very unmoved by the concept of "pets". It just seems like an extra expense.

I did have two guard dogs when I was young kid in Nigeria. Both dogs lived outside in the kennel.

One was shot, the other ran away and got run over by a car.

I live by myself in a house so having my dog kinda feels a void for me and gives me a sense of security. He be on top of shyt before I’m even aware. Plus he’s a great ice breaker when i bring chicks over to the crib.

Americans are generally not as family oriented and generally don't have large families. Pets often fill the spaces that people do not or can not. Pets are company without the drama or cost. Plus their simplicity and general pleasant nature is comforting in a stressful culture.

Also, there is something amazing about being able to bond and communicate with a species that is not your own and getting to observe the understanding and personality of a pet is pretty cool.

pet ownership and how seriously people take pets tends to correlate with the wealth of a nation. no way people in a country where most barely or only have basic needs covered waste time and resources on pets that can't work (i.e. horses) or provide value (milk, eggs, meat, fur). but ovachea we love our house pets pleighboi :birdman:

We have 3 dogs and really only the puppy has to be crated currently. My wife and I both work full time but they all usually do well. Getting a less hyper and maybe 2 or 3 years old breed will go a long way.

Not only are they not as family oriented, they also tend to be further away from their family/see them less often. In Nigeria I'd see my grandmother at least once a month. Meet various uncles and aunts frequently etc.

Don't get me wrong, I can see why people like pets. But it ain't for me. I also think the laws here concerning pets are a bit too extreme.

My pit just sleeps and has the run of my house while I'm gone for work but I never leave him for more than 8 hours. I walk him and play with him and love him the rest of the time. Lots of dogs sleep up to 19-20 hours of the day. My man is getting old too so I just show him love all I can and if I travel I bring him with me. He si at my feet chewing his new favorite toy right now.

While agree on the economic argument, I think the bolded below is a better explanation. Even amongst well to do people I met in Nigeria, they just didn't care for pets. Dogs were usually for kept as guard dogs and that was that.

Pet ownership like BlackPearl correctly pointed to, is moreso for companionship here in the US, especially as family units are smaller and people are more to themselves. Whereas elsewhere families are larger and tighter knitted.

nah, because plenty of families have pets...pets damn near neck in neck in importance as the kids. i simply think western countries, for better or worse, tend to look at animals a bit differently than other nations where they simply see an animal as an animal

Actually most laws are pretty lacks when it comes with actually enforcement. They really only go hard on people when it becomes a biohazard or some other issue. Mike Vick for example, it was really about gambling. The state doesn't give a fukk about dogs. State shelters kill hundreds, if not thousands of dogs a year.
