I have a degree in Computer and Information Sciences (basically CS but without the math theory). In terms of jobs, you get all the programming jobs they can throw at you. Any job that requires code, you can get. A lot of times, you can get a Help Desk position with that degree as well.

Good shyt, but I heard it’s hard to get a job with a degree in computer science

CS degree...in order to get a job in IT you have to be a jack of all trades so to speak as you are moving up until you are sure on what you want to specialize in....which is how i guess how i fell into the analyst world lol..in IT you really start from the bottom even with a CS degree..but its not hard to get a job with it...it kinda speaks for itself in some ways

Where did you hear this

I'd put it up their with Engineering as one of the few degrees even worth going to college for

I hear it a lot TBH, been contracting for years and come across dudes with a Degree in CS but haven't heard or used AD, Exchange, SCCM and they tell me they found it hard to get a starting role as many hiring managers want experience of using those and your CV\resume prob wouldn't get noticed by recruitment agencies without those in your skillset.

Got a CS degree but never reset a users password in AD

Not to say its impossible, like I say I have worked alongside a few with CS degrees. And depends on the role your going for, but coming fresh outta of Uni with a CS degree with no experience of AD, Exchange, SCCM hiring managers would be like

Most CompSci curriculums aren't geared toward networking/system admin stuff. It's usually a couple of Intro programming classes, Data structures , Algorithms, Software Engineering , Programming Paradigms , Computer Architecture , Operating Systems, and Databases and then you usually pick some concentration that you take electives related too

I have a degree in computer science. You’ll be a Software Engineer. Didn’t graduate with a 3.0 gpa, still had multiple job offers before I walked the stage, made 100k+ before I turned 30.

It’s a mindblowingly hard ass major but if you have the resolve it will pay off big time. I’ve been in the industry for 12 years now. If you have any questions shoot em.

Lol. CS guys are engineers who write code not help desk people. Been working in the industry for years and I’d be insulted if someone had me fukking with exchange.
