What generational improvements have your parents made? Like my mom grew up in the hood and she made sure to raise my brother and I in a better neighborhood although she struggled to do so because it was more expensive. I can't blame her for not being able to save for college when she's saving us from something WAY bigger. College wouldn't have even been an option had I grew up in the hood so I'm thankful for that. Before I had my daughter, I used to feel the same way as the OP but now I know better.

As long as they give you a house to sleep in, food to eat, and some clothes to wear then don't bytch.

Technically my grandma and grandpa were able to do that for my mom, aunt, and uncles but they provided an abusive environment that mentally scarred all of them. Are they not allowed to be resentful?

And all yall saying yall parents did what they could are probably tweaking. If you can afford a place in the hood, then you can afford a place in the burns or somewhere at least safer. Black people get caught up with caring what everyone else is thinking about them too much instead of building and being different etc.

Hmm, this is tough. I don't "resent" my mother and stepfather. I'm grateful to them because we are in a better position than a lot of people, but they made some poor financial decisions when we were young. When they were separated/going through divorce he made some more while she smartened up eventually. They are DEFINITELY making up for it now.

You are definitely right though, a lot of children who are very successful running their own businesses before the age of 18, making hundreds of thousands if not millions a year, geniuses in their respective fields etc are that way because their parents saw their talents and gifts at an early age and nurtured them to where they are at now.
I wouldn't say my mother and stepfather failed at this, but they didn't exactly spot, encourage, and cultivate our talents either. I mean Joe Jackson is far from a perfect man (and sure their family still developed more than their fair share of problems), but he saw that his kids had talent, groomed it, and used that to get them the fukk outta the hood. My brother was never much of an academic, has always been VERY, VERY gifted salesperson. He could get anyone to give him their money :lolbron: They knew it, but never turned it into positive. I've been accepted into Choirs, basketball camps (some were free), etc and they always said no but had the money for bullshyt :francis:

I resent her for making decisions that made it impossible to be able to take care of herself at this point. It's a burden to take care of a parent.

This is my friend's situation. Her mom is a lovely woman, but made absolutely NO PLANS. Worked off the books, didn't learn English, and didn't save for over three decades :francis: My friend had to move her in because she couldn't no longer stand to pay her AND mom's rent.
You see me personally, I don't want to have children until I know I can do more than just the basics. Vacations, college funds, all that. If I have a family I want that Huxtable life.

THANK YOU. I couldn't agree more breh and fukk anyone who says you can't have it. I'm about to buy my first crib and ppl keep saying "now you're gonna have to stop traveling so much" :mjlol: yeah right just watch me :blessed:
