i you know anyone with even a small home set up with a mic, mixer & garageband you should do some shyt with them first. i don't see the point in wasting time & money on a studio these days when you can get decent sound out of a home set up. when you have some familiarity with your voice, flow, memorizing rhymes, telling the engineer what to do, all that. THEN go into a professional studio if you feel it's warranted

Save some money, book studio time at your LOCAL studio and work with a producer/engineer. A lot of rappers smoke weed when they record you usually allowed to do that too... And by local I mean where most rappers from your neighbourhood record at
Breh at my local studio they won't even let you cuss so I doubt they'll let me light some dodie

I'm not gonna lie, go to someone's home studio for free or the low first. You not gonna know what to do so you're gonna just waste money :manny:
Get familair with studio settings first (even if it's a basement home studio) then go out and find a real one

Co sign..if you've never recorded before than you're not ready for a real studio..you may think you're good enough, but as soon as you hear it you're not gonna be polished enough on the mic..polish you're shyt first in a home studio before you do it in a real studio..it may take about a year..depending how often you record..the more you record the more you'll get used to it..

i been in a few studios and if you've never been to a really nice one its a trip. a few tips...

1. record at home. unless you're actually recording anything don't waste your money in a nice studio.

2. if you've never recorded at a shytty home studio or at the homies basement studio, don't waste your time looking like an idiot.

3. have your shyt memorized and your flow down, otherwise you're gonna record the same 4 bars 50 times. ive seen dudes spend 2-3 sessions and get 1 song done.

4. unless this is for something that's gonna go out to people (mixtape or album) and you're planning on being for real about it, don't waste your money.

5. don't act like a fakkit, unless you have a personal engineer that guy is the difference between your music being shyt or that new club banger. he knows more than you and will say a lot of technical bullshyt, but trust your ear nonetheless.

7. bring weed, alcohol or bytches. don't be the lame nikka coming to the studio, but maintain control, don't get too fukked up.

8. TAKE YOUR fukkING MUSIC WITH YOU. don't leave your shyt there with them, ive seen it happen too many times...

That's messed up, I suggest find guys with similar interests, friends with their own studio... if all else fails buy a mic, bootleg Pro Tools and get to work

Check this interview with Nipsey Hussle recording in his hotel room

that little box he's playing with next to the laptop is an mbox, you NEED that for Pro Tools to work so bootlegging Pro Tools wont do shyt, even tho i have seen torrents with it available. but you can download decent enough programs like Audacity or even garageband if you have a mac and that will do until you get the money for a proper set up or really want to hit the studio.

Buy your own set up, you can get everything you need for $1000 or less (mic, mbox/a version of pro tools, sound reflection filter, etc). My boy started rapping in like 08-09 and it wasn't until he got his own setup that he really began perfecting his craft. And everything people are saying about memorizing your lyrics and taking control of the session is spot on. Preparation and memorization are gona make or break your sessions, by preparation I mean not only having the lyrics memorized but the flow too, like someone said before me this is gona free you up to let loose and just spit when your in there, and also you'll know what you want from the session and in turn the engineer, and be able to dictate that properly.
