I forgot to mention its like 90% women. Seems to be a mixture of marketing with "fun"

Anybody who in the field fill us in

I am. You write press releases and feature stories. Keep your clients and their promotions in the media. Keep a friendly relationship with the media. Oversee the social media profiles. Coordinate events and press conferences. And you gotta be ready to deal with crisis.

Look at the world today, with everything being so politically correct and businesses and public figures needing to stay in positive light, public relations will be a work field on the rise.

Who you work for? Clients? What's the pay in that field? How high can you go up the ranks?

This my 1st year so I'm at 30,000 right now but I'm getting a raise at the end of the year and my salary will go up to 40k next year, 50k the following. However with working in communications comes connections. We work with a lot of people in City Hall so the police department called me the other day wanting to interview me for a job within their communications department. That salary starts at 65k a year. :blessed: I'm interviewing with them this week. It's all about how good you are at your job, if you do good and make the right relationships (which is easy to do), your connections can easily get you through over time.

I would search PR companies in your area and send your cover letter and resume en masse to them. See if any of them bite. Just get your foot in the door and work from there.

I work for a woman who started her own business. She used to be a press secretary for the mayor back in the 80s and now works for a lot of politicians, local schools, and school organizations.

There's a lot more to PR than just this. I've been working in the industry for 7 years and it's not "easy." Enjoyable, yes. Rocket science, no. Easy, no.

Wanna let a fellow Torontonian know what your job entails, everyday schedule, etc?

What's the pay like as the ranks go up? More females than men?

Thanks booboo

I interned for a big entertainment/music publicist a couple years ago. It was an interesting look at the PR field. I answered the phones, sent out email blasts, cold called media contacts, updated the database, etc. etc. It was pretty boring, but it was kinda fulfilling when I helped get some of the clients interviews in a big website/publication. It was all about selling from what i experienced.

One of her clients called and was asked her "How do I deal with all these folks coming at me on Twitter/gossip sites?" She told him xyz and shyt died down in a couple days. Said client also was knocked sleep when we tried to connect him to a call to big outlet as well :russ:

But, I kinda saw how the machine works behind a lot of entertainers, there's a lot of background work to put on the finished product. Unheralded work fa sho.
