I'd like to hear some experiences as well. I have a really close friend who raps and I really thought about managing him, even brought it up with him a couple times and he was cool with it but mixing business and friendship never ends well. At least from what I've observed.

Its not easy, the key is to make sure everyone is on the same page with clear communication and understanding of the goals and day to day expectations.

It’s ass I wouldnt recommend it unless you work for an agency.
If they up and coming and broke... how do you get compensated for your work?

I know someone who's going through this right now. You think you'd do a better job if you didn't have a personal relationship with the artist? I understand why business and friendship don't always work
even if I was rich, I would still be underpaid. If money was the motivation I would have went to medical school.
I kind of figured that. It's like a passion project when you first starting out with em, but the bigger they get, the more likely they are to kick you to the curb for someone with more connections

If you’re paperwork not airtight thry can finesse you outta loans you give them as well. Work for an agency unless you got bread like that.

I get that, but if it's not blood... like your brother or cousin/nephew or something... and they really trying to do music FULL time, it's a lot to ask of someone to manage their career and get them good looks.
You managing everybody without worrying about getting paid?
Are you managing cats or just giving them advice/kicking knowledge?

Yeah bruh you really gotta like music to do that shyt the work and the money you get is not worth it.
But sometimes if you do a good job and you have a great mouthpiece then other artists will see what you can do and will want you to manage them as well. Managers can come up too. Thankfully not many other people on this level can show and prove like me, so off the strength of that, when a client of mine wants to entertain someone else...I let them.
They always come back.
Seems like the transparency/consistency I offer is hard to come by for upcoming artists
