Anybody still wear dress pants/slacks to a job that allows casual wear (i.e. jeans/t-shirts)

OP one of two things will happen to you

1. You show up well put together and management respects you for it.

2. They look at you as a try hard who thinks he can suck up to management by putting on some nice clothes.

tomorrow is my 2nd day in the office and i want to look nice and make an impression

they are allowing us to dress casually (i.e. jeans, t-shirts, tennis shoes)

but my friend told me thats a set up and to still wear some nice looking dress pants

You're not being setup, wear what you feel comfortable in that adheres to the rules, I work in a place that has dress down Fridays and some dudes still turn up fully suited.

I did when I was in the office. I only dressed down on Friday's; I started that 13 months into the job, when I got full time. Why? I like the aesthetic and the morning ritual... and stylin in yts. I was one of 3 Black men in a space of over a hundred ppl. I low key changed the culture for a bit.... Alot of the new ppl started wearing ties more often cuz I had a new tie everyday.

I wore dockers on Fridays when I was in an office setting, I mean pretty much every day but yeah that was “casual attire”. In the kitchen on fridays we could do jeans but ill never understand how people do food service in jeans.

Dark Jeans, Chinos, or 5 Pocket Chinos as the guy said above (5 pocket is not cargo, they are “dressier” pants in a style similar to most denim)

Dress Polo(tiny logo if any) or Casual Buttondown (just not overly crispy)

blazer or sport coat

smart casual sneaker (plain low profile), chelsea or lace up boot, loafers

If you over do it (3 piece suit or really any corporate looking suit) you’re probably going to look like a try hard suck up if everyone else is dressing down

Show up in Paco jeans and a throwback Bullets Jersey with a du rag, with a black and mild dangling out of your mouth. Don't buckle to white supremacy.

Wear dark jeans (navy or black) along with a blazer. You can always wear a casual shirt under so you have the option of taking off the blazer and rolling up the sleeves on the shirt for more casual look.

it's less to impress the office and more to show clients the utmost professional environment. i guess a lot of people don't have client/public facing positions

We’re allowed to wear jeans and “dress sneakers”.

I wear a polo/buttondown, slacks and dress shoes everyday. I’ve gotten comfortable dressing like this, so I don’t mind.

I do, but I noticed for some reason my potential partners/clients always just show up in Golf Shirts and Slacks, so I started dressing down a bit to make me seem more approachable. Like you said though it does have to with environment/type of work, but I’m assuming if the whole office is casual they probably aren’t dealing with many face to face deals.
