While I have some grips about Insecure and Issa Rae, it did fill a void and did a lot at an elite level (cinematography, soundtrack, diverse representation of “everyday” black folks).
Which can happen when young, Black and talented cast and crew are given opportunities and latitude AND are coupled with HBO-level production and resources.
There’s ZERO mass appeal shows for everyday black millennials, which says a lot about the film and TV industry (and cacs).
In a sense, it’s a miracle that it ever came out to begin with. As we saw with Rap shyt, if you don’t keep capturing lightning in a bottle as a black creator, the studio is quick to pull the plug and go back to what they are familiar and comfortable with.

Well said, I agree. We just don’t have that big community watch thread anymore for black entertainment. Love or hate insecure Twitter was really fun on Sunday nights because of it
