Anyone else remember when video games were actually fun?

I used to be a huge ass gamer, playing all types of shyt.

When the ps1, dreamcast, and ps2 era, I remember everyone had one of those CD holders dat came with like 60 plastic pounches dat u zip up, and damn near all of them would be full up with games.

Now a nikka only played like 2 or 3 games in the past 2 years

Video games just aint fun like they used to be, not cuz im getting older(im only 18) but cuz they focus too much on bullshyt. Why df do we need 10 different generic ass FPS

Why does every game have to be super realistic? Why does EVERY single game need to have the best graphics in the world?

I may be in the minority here, but I think that depending on the type of game, when you have too good graphics, it actually makes the game less fun.
What happen to games like

Crazy Taxi
Def Jam
Vice City
San Andreas
NBA Ballers
etc..?

It seems like Ipod and Droid app games tend to have more of that fun video game feel, than actually video games

Co-sign. I want to know what happened to the platformers? I mean u had spyro(now its skylanders and he's not even the main star), crash bandicoot, rayman(finally went back to his roots with origins),sonic(games are jokes now), jak and daxter(heard the last two games weren't good). All the good companies either went bankrupt or changed their business model to focus more on the casual crowd. Would really like to see more platformers and stuff being made

this is definitely an issue. back in the day it was clear shyt didn't look 'real', so they had to focus on making a good game. there's a place for good graphics, and how they can really help with 'immersion', but it shouldn't be the main focus of a game

a lot of recent indie games, like Don't Starve and FTL, have shown how you can still make a great game with very simple graphics

I play mostly sports games, and NCAA Football and Madden ain't really been as fun on 360/PS3 as they were on PS2/Xbox. Fun shyt, but like @mlk17 said, maybe I just haven't come across the right game yet.

there is a shortage of fun arcade style competition games. lots of these new games only have online multiplayer you can't even sit around with your friends talking shyt and playin games anymore cause games like that hardly exist.

Def agree...this is the reason I said the Wii U won't be completely done if they get a bunch of new IP's and do a lot with the indie market...it can provide a really nice balance to the other systems..and if they pull that same bullshyt they did this past gen wit the Wii...they're finished...

Agreed. The only games I play now is 2k and COD. I bought Mortal Kombat last year and got bored of it after beating story mode in a week. And Black Ops 2 was garbage to me. So I probably won't be getting Ghosts unless it's the MW style.

Right now the only game I look forward to is GTA 5.

This pretty much happened as the west overtook gaming and games got more expensive to create due to bigger budgets, so you pretty much have the same type of game over and over... Your traditional FPS, your uncharted-esque 3rd person shooter, sports games, and maybe an rpg here and there. There's no imagination in the big games because companies are afraid to lose money, so they make a formulaic title.

If you want creativity in a game, you have to search out the indie titles, and they have a lot of them on pc. Bastion, Cave Story, Defense Grid, Plants Vs. Zombies, etc.

I can still play sonic, pokemon, spiderman, mario, and other sega/nintendo games and still have more fun with those than these new games.

Great thing for you is if you started gaming with the PS1, you still have whole generations for you to explore. You got the whole Genesis and SNES era to explore, as well as the NES era.
