The online third-person shooter is currently in development for Xbox One and PS4, although Ubisoft is aware there's strong consumer demand for a PC release.
In a recent Q&A session with fans of the game, community developer Antoine Emond clarified The Division's always-online co-op and PvP mechanics.
"The Division is an online, open world RPG experience where exploration, objectives and player progression are all essential," he said.
"You can team up with a group of friends in co-op and jump in and jump out at any time. In certain areas, you can also seamlessly engage in PvP and experience suspenseful scenarios where danger can come from anywhere and anyone."
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has said that The Division release date will fall "closer to the end of 2014 than the start", possibly lining up the well-received title as a major Christmas release.
