I see what you're saying, but it doesn't really apply to me.

Yea, I've been giving my accounts EMV compliant terminals for a minute now. The ones that haven't are just going to have to get with the times.

As far as competition, I practice business/corporate law, so a lot of my merchant accounts are businesses who I already have a preexisting relationship with on the law side, so they're loyal. Also I'm an ISO of First Data/Wells Fargo, so I typically offer lower rates than just some sales dude walking in their business trying to solicit them. A lot of it is just building rapport and providing service to where they won't want to go through the hassle of switching even if it's going to save them some money. That's really what I try to concentrate on.

I have agents all across the country who all do really well, and I'd like to think it's because we train them on exactly that. It's about more than the pricing. If that's all you have to offer a merchant, then you're fukked, because someone else can always come in and be willing to give them a lower rate just to add another drop in the bucket.

Isn't everyone an ISO of first data?

I work for an investment bank and that's one of our ancillary services. It seems odd to me a lawyer doing it though. Dont let our partners around your clients this guy there could sell ice to an eskimo.

Yeah
sounds like you're in a good situation.

a few questions.. in the past how many clients/businesses have you helped increase their sales using your marketing strategies? and do you the have the specific numbers to back that up?

do clients need to be local in DC or can you work just as effectively through the internet?

how do you plan to target small companies who need help with advertising?

honestly there is not a company in the world who couldn't benefit from better/more advertising, but what's going to make them spend a portion of their budget on you? there's open courses on the net from ivy league business schools giving away whole curriculums on marketing and advertising for free-what is your plan to compete with that?
I don't have specific numbers but I've helped only two so far.

No they don't have to be local I can work via online

I was going to build a website and run an advertising campaign using Apple ads and target app builders who need marketing help.

Honestly my biggest benefits that im finacially flexible and I have fast turnover and I have the time available to execute whatever plans laid out between me and whoever im consulting.

Most small startups don't wanna bother with marketing so I'm hoping to take advantage of that.:yeshrug:

Does that mean I shouldn't bother to try?

I was thinking of targeting small start ups with small budgets and then working my way up :yeshrug:

Eh, I mean the only thing it's going to cost you is time essentially....

why not?

if you're successful at some point you're going to have to choose between your career and starting your business .

my take

If so, what is it?

I'm considering starting my own Consulting Firm. :patrice:

Do it. I'd recommend finding an existing firm and offering to get them clients

That way you test the waters to see what it takes to be in that business with less risk.

Start ups are the worst....... better off adding value to an existing business that can afford it

You can do that after you experience the grind it takes to acquire a client......

What's better ?

Starting from day one with no battled tested experience in getting clients or
starting from day one knowing exactly how and what to market to this segment ?

If you are savvy you'll create an alliance with someone who already has these clients like an accountant or lawyer

and piggyback off their existing relationship to acquire their clients for an introduction fee

best to create a "special report" or "marketing diagnosis" to ease clients in your funnel

Once they request more info.... it's time to go for the jugular
