The US dropped more bombs in Vietnam than any war ever and since. The us didn't p*ssy foot aroubd with literal kill zones enforced where anyone and everyone was shot on sight no questions asked including thousands of civilians.

The government lied endlessly not for any arguable real reason like the supposed containment of communism but because, and the pentagon papers prove this, simply because no president wanted to lose an election. The press in this case were god sends for the American public.

Militarily as I said, the most success the west had was during operation linebacker. Not after Tet. They were still getting their shyt pushed in after Tet. Despite that, before the US sniffed Vietnam, the French had their hands full dealing with an insurgent Vietnamese population. They dealt with that for decades before the US came in and took over and the French pulled out for the same reason we did which was the public and France realized it was an unwinnable quagmire and we're losing too many soliders.

What makes you think that the US would have more success and "subdue" the Vietnamese? They would have the same problem, because the Vietnamese just wanted to be left the fukk alone.

Are you responding to that paid shill? :lolbron:

:francis: I sometimes wonder if it’s an elaborate troll.

He is basically saying Robert McNamara and all five presidents are wrong when they all concluded to the very end that it was unwinnable. The North Vietnamese recognized their casualties but the one guard at Hanoi Hilton was right. They would have to kill every single North Vietnamese before they stopped fighting while America wasn’t going to kill every single American to win this war.

That’s why I asked dude if he watched it because I get the sense he didn’t even watch this series before commenting.

Anyways back to the show, the most crazy thing was that ambassador in the last episode. Bombs and artillary exploding all over Saigon and that dude didn’t want to leave because he believed they could still win. Wouldn’t even let them cut down a tree to land helicopters because It “represents American resilience” :mjlol: I hope that dude was put in a psych ward when he got back.

Got 2 episodes left :whew:

- Confirmed that Nixon was a true scumbag
- Makes it pretty clear that the North Vietnamese were the most "right" in the conflict, if not for propaganda Ho Chi Minh might be seen as a hero
- The helicopter pilot during My Lai, had to pause it just to google him. Legit hero :wow:
- CACS. :beli:
-They were sending kids out on straight dummy missions. "Go take that hill so we can abandon it a week later" :wtf:
- Confirmed that I 100% would not have gone to Vietnam unless I was assured a non combat role. fukk the dumb shyt.

PBS App. It was free when I started but last week they put it behind the paywall so now I'm officially a PBS Passport member. Its 5 dollars a month but I get to see the explicit version with cuss words and I think the video/pictures are more graphic...just gonna cancel it when I'm done watching

the one thing i had a problem with was not enough black gi was seen in this doc
I think he did a good job in including their perspective in there when he did. But I agree that I wish there was more about the black experience. I actually found those segments the most interesting.

considering that black gi were doing most of the dying and fighting, this dic should have had more black faces denouncing this war
