910 for a million plays. Wow. Robbery

Tho when u think about it... Rappers were gettjng what a dollar for an album per each one sold on majors right? Thats even less than 9.1 cents.

15 song album that streams a million times each aong is like 15 thou and if really popular itll be streamed many million times moee than that. Im sure albums that are new get millions up millions. I know utube got shyt touchin a billion.

Idk... Seems low but u gotta take it in conaideration vs whats the deals now.

Bout to upload my shyt and just let it stream all day. 2 min songs. 30 an hour. 24 hours a day.

Make a whole 65 cents. If only it was per stream
If you was getting a dollar an album on a major, you came in with HEAVY collateral and still probably got fukked on publishing

Even in the 90s/00s, the industry standard was about 10 cent a record AFTER you recouped

I think I get it now, this is not what Apple pays . It's just song-writer royalties. So if Spotify only pays artists through it's premium service they will now be forced to pay 9.1 cents per 100 plays for the free service as well.

Free trial
The company confirmed before launch that it would pay labels and publishers 71.5% of all Apple Music revenues in the US after users’ three-month free trial – slightly higher than Spotify’s typical 70%.

Outside the US, Apple is believed to pay around 73%.

Last summer, MBW discovered that Apple Music was paying independent labels $0.002 per stream for its free trial before tax, but this figure did not include publishing/songwriting payouts.

Now
Worldwide Average $0.005643
United States $0.006005
United Kingdom $0.01070
Japan $0.007262

If the labels agree to lower rates per plays then what apple is proposing and they are responsible for paying the artists,

is Apple and spotify still to blame for not paying the artists?

And how much does his label get of that 100000?
exactly it's a pittance

I wonder if they got the decimal correct.

Every site on the internet says that Spotify pays the least at 0.72 cents per stream, so they pay almost 10 times more than Apple will pay.
:bryan:Other factors also come into play, like the country in which a song was streamed and the currency value in that country. Still, Spotify admits the average "per stream" payout to rights holders lands somewhere between $0.006 and $0.0084.

Artists should set up their own streaming sites/download sites. It's the only way. I'm sure the technology isn't that hard to configure.

Its hard to FINANCE

thats the issue...most indy artists dont have the budget to maintain thier own website for downloading/streaming

Cause first you gotta GENERATE TRAFFIC (fans)

And u gotta do it on the global scale

Which takes marketing

Then u have to have something to compensate for when sales and royalties arent there

So u need merchandising.thats more money to spend

Also when it comes to streaming royalties WHO GONNA COLLECT IT FOR U in those foriegn countries? ?

That means registering with SOUNDEXCHANGE and either BMI or ASCAP thats more money

Oh u wanna talk show dough..well u got a hire a manager and a publicist to help get u bookings as well as promoting u offline

Thats more money...

See its NOT AS EASY AS U THINK

which is why most let digital aggregaters like Tunecore..Itunes handle the leg work

In the same fashion as major labels

Because the indy route is counterproductive for most artist unless they already established a fanbase thats loyal and PAYING.....

Thats not bad at all. You have to remember streaming is additional income on top of album purchases. And apple is just 1 source. These artist are getting streaming revenue from multiple sources for 1 song. Google play, spotify, apple music, tidal etc.. a hit song gets millions of plays on each.

No joke a temp worker at the factory I work in could come in, no experience, just to move boxes or put shyt in boxes. Get $10/hr at 40hrs +5 OT a week and make more than that (gross) in 3 weeks.

That's a god damn shame. I never looked at it that way. *realizes I'm probably doing better financially than most of these new age artists*

Never expected that

Having a streaming platform is that expensive ?

What about all those artists giving mix tapes for free on those sites ? How does it work ?
