From what I read the only thing that makes this better than Spotify and Tidal is the 6 subscriptions for $14.99 and the 3 month free trial... That just might be enough to win over the masses though...

A quarter of a year of free product is gonna be difficult to say no to as a consumer...They expect that's plenty of time to get you hooked as oppose to Spotify's 30 day window..

The 6 subscriptions basically adds up to a little over $2 a month if you wanna split the pie..College dorms are gonna eat the fukk outta this sh1t Netflix style...

The Passage of Time
I have the streaming services on my phone and CPU and you know what I use? My own playlist I make for myself based on the thousand upon thousand of songs I stole via torrents years ago. I have Music from the 60's, 70's, 80's, and on up. I really don't care for no ones streaming service. I rarely even buy music anymore. Simply because I'm content with the library I have now and some of the new music is retreads music from years gone by and in this day and age music is like fast food.

Nah.. They just took the Beats Music and integrated it with iTunes Radio... Basically re-branded it into Apple Music

Plus they still selling the Headphones too
By selling the headphones they'll have a direct to consumer advertising too. You'll probably be able to buy the headphones with a subscription. The horizontal integration they have is crazy. They sell you the device that you play music on (phone and laptop), the device you use to listen (headphones), and now the streaming service. Next all they need is the music (record label), and venue... I doubt they'll take it that far.

I mean can't indy artist put their music straight to iTunes themselves and apple makes their cut? Essentially they are a distribution company, but dont need to print albums for you.

The $15 family plan pretty much kills all the competition as far as price. Add to that arguably the most powerful brand in the world in Apple, combined with the already strong Beats brand, and nobody can come close to matching Apple Music's marketing power. Top it off with Apple having an endless supply of cash, and the fact that from here on out every iPhone will be preloaded with the Apple Music app right on the home screen, and its pretty clear that the Streaming Music market is pretty much about to be a one horse race.

If Jay knew that Apple Music was on the horizon, then I seriously think that his investment in Tidal was only made to flip the company later on down the line for profit. The original Beats Music app never took off, but Dre made a huge piece of cash by selling the company (granted, along with the headphones company). I'm guessing Jay saw that and thought, "I could make a streaming service, build it up for a couple years, and then sell it to a bigger company."

There's no way Jay could've thought he could go head to head with Apple and win. Just no way. If he really thought that, he's an absolute idiot.
