I think indeed is trash too, but that's the only way I can think of besides either having connections, or going and asking the place you want to work at are the hiring.

Try writing a cover letter on indeed, might help.

It's a numbers game. When using Indeed I recommend going to the original job listing to apply because the "Indeed resume" is complete shyt. There should be a link that says Original Link or something like that. If it has one then use it if not then I'd bypass it, and if IT automatically takes you there then ignore this.

I was applying so often that I would order the listings by recent posting rather than relevance. That way when I hit the stuff from the previous day I knew I could stop looking.

The other site I used was Glassdoor.

When you're applying to hella jobs using that fast apply is good, but it makes it harder to get a job. So it makes sense why it sucks.

Quick apply is fine when you can attach your actual documents. Dice and Glassdoor do it right. Indeed makes you apply with essentially just work history and not details.

What are these documents you speak of? I just have my resume on there.

You got any advice for me? I literally got 3 jobs off indeed. And I have been applying for years on there.

Even simple ass jobs don't call me back.

You have any advice I can beat the comp?

Resume, possibly cover letter. My resume is on there too but from what I gather they only send that watered down version that they create from parsing your uploaded resume.

I wish I did. Although not entirely on indeed, I did a good 500 applications over the summer and didn't get great results. My best results came from applying directly to the company, for example if Glassdoor had a listing and it was quick apply only I'd go directly to the website and try to find that listing. But like I said, it's a numbers game. I've seen jobs go from new listing to 100 applicants in the time it took me to click the link, fill out the form, and apply.

Proofread your resume a few times, print it, then proofread it again. I had a few typos in mine that MS Word didn't catch. You wanna make sure your resume is human and machine readable. Applicant tracking systems have a hard time dealing with resumes that use tables. A quick way to know is to save your resume as a .txt file. If it looks right as a .txt then you should be fine. It does take a lot of trial and error to get your formatting such that it both looks good and can be parsed correctly.

I think LinkedIn is another useful site. Never tried it myself bc I'm not really doing a job search like that, at this time, but heard good things from word of mouth and co-workers.

I don't have a LinkedIn. How important is it?
Let me pose a question to you, do you have your own professional website? I assume your answer is no - think of LinkedIn as that website. Your work history, academic history and achievements, patents, publications, etc. can ask be listed on your LinkedIn. You can network with people in your discipline and people from other disciplines. Think of it as Facebook for professionals. A strong profile can get you good interest from employers and recruiters. It's another way you can market yourself.
