I guess cause im a nikka who can decipher between my favorites and the greatest. Cause even with me. If a know an album aint a consensus classic I will call it a personal classic. Same way I have a non biased top 10 list and a MY Top 10 list. Lol

same here. I have separate lists as well for being subjective & objective. I'm harder on my favorite artists when doing rankings actually.

I'm mutual on the debate between you and @FreshAIG.

i feel like theres certain criterias that need to be met in order to crack my top 15-20 groups. none of the groups mentioned in this thread are even in my top 25, let alone top 5. figgas, UGK, 3-6 mafia, none of em.

but you cant completely disregard the little guys that didn't get that shot. especially the ones that managed to meet some of the criteria.
and when you do give one of them a pass, u cant just give a pass to the ones that have a hindsight machine pushing their legacy - which essentially what youre doing and what I'm really arguing about with you.

also, if this is the criteria that you use, then youre gonna have to argue differently when it comes to the bigger acts.
it would mean that you mobb deep would have to drop drastically in your rankings.
wutang would have to drop some as well.
cuz theres a lot of bases that wutang didn't cover well, and bases that mobb deep didn't tag at all.

and shoot, while I'm in my bag, major figgas had more influence than mobb deep.

be fair to flair.

Bro if u feel this way more power to u. I dont believe neither one of these groups is top 5 and I feel like Major Figgas has less of an argument based on their musical output alone. We aint gonna even bring up 36 mafia. Them nikkas influenced multiple generations of artists and producers. UGK and Major Figgas aint even close to that. Major Figgas has ONE joint fam and that wasnt even that poppin. Them nikkas is a non factor mu g. Lol

in terms of rapping, i'd say both groups had more influence than 3-6 mafia.

besides, if we're REALLY gonna talk about the most influential groups, the most influential group after the '80s is prolly above the law.

Bro u not gonna get me to argue UGK vs some fukkin Major Figgas bro. Lol. It just aint gonna happen. It makes zero sense. And its not even like I consider UGK a top 5 group or anything. So that aint a argument to have wit me. Regardless of how much u think they get propped up. UGK >>>> Major Figgas as far as cultural presence. Its not even an argument bro. We talkin bout Major Figgas here. Whatever UGK did. Major Figgas did LESS.

Hmmm...Wayne's reinvention post-Hot Boys, Clipse, Jay-Z, some fashion, Liva ghostwriting for Dre & Kanye, Lil Kim's 5 Mic Source album (mostly penned by Dutch), combined with Yeah That's Us...The Figgas influence is felt all throughout the industry.

UGK is known for 2 songs - Jay & Outkast

@Homeboy Runny-Ray explained it the best

Ok bro. Major Figgas tho broski? Not even shyttin on them. But all time? Naaahhh. They meet zero criteria for those standards OUTSIDE of personal preference. I could turn around and say Tag Team is the best hip hop group of all time and that would be my preference but it wont make it any less ridiculous. Lol
I think it has more to do with the moves they made because they did alot for the philly scene. They signed like the biggest group deal for hip hop artist at the time and opened up doors for other rappers. Everyone in Figgas can rap but they are not even close musically to best group out of Philly.

Don't get me started on Gillie influencing Wayne and Birdman.

Figgas actually have crazy output, just not on a mainstream scale. Philly really embraced that mixtape/album releases that was started by Mega, and spearheaded by G-Unit. So you can find tons of material by Gillie, Bump, a few by Dutch...not much by Spade since he was biddin it, and Liva is a signed ghostwriter so...

Im not gonna allow anyone to do anything. A nikka can tell me he think UGK is top 5 and in my head I wont agree wit em but im not gonna tell a nikka who to like. Same shyt wit Major Figgas. But that would he an even HARDER argument to give someone than the UGK one. Thats all im sayin. UGK been on a major since 92 and got 6 studio albums under they belt. There’s atleast UGK songs I can throw on and everyone knows bro. NOT saying that it qualifies them as a top 5 group. But atleast them nikkas had an output. Regional or not. And outside of 10 years ago I knew who UGK was. I had songs like Choppin Blades in my rotation heavy fam. Lol. And shyt. Who the fukk dont know them from the Big Pimpin feature? And even with them being pushed in nikkas faces. Major Figgas dont even have THAT luxury fam. Thats what im saying.

They have not been major since '92. They were basically in music purgatory from like '95 until Jay breathed life into them with Big Pimpin. Weren't they semi-retired by then?

I know about Gillie and Liva’s ghostwriting n shyt like that. YES. I know about them nikkas skills on the mic. But musically. As a group??? They not a factor bro. And fukk all this UGK talk cause im realizing that me and @Homeboy Runny-Ray dont even disagree on what we saying. This argument is for nothing for the most part. Lol

we disagree on the idea of UGK being worlds above the figgas.
