^^^ I’ll say, yes some of it is that they lie to themselves/think they can perform to get White approval, but —and I’m not excusing them— some ppl come here and don’t actually learn the history of this nation so they truly don’t understand how wicked and evil the system has been.

I mentioned it on here I think. I worked with an East African doctor who didn’t understand until her children were being targeted by whites in the school system. She said she packed them up and sent them home with her family while she continued working and sending money home. Her kids came back here for college and they excelled.

She said when she realized how bad it is she decided to dedicate her time volunteering. She goes to schools in the area a few times a week to volunteer and work with Black children to do her part to counteract what she witnessed first hand.

Another East African colleague who I was cool with…I had to sit her down and explain things to her because I heard her saying some stereotypical things about us. I was surprised. I had to give her a short explanation about what Black Americans endured before other groups were able to come here and she apologized and said she honestly didn’t know and they weren’t taught those things.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure she knew to a certain extent, but the same way a lot of people only learned about Tulsa in the last couple years, there are pleeeenty of Black folks who come here and have no clue about the horrors that were happening in this country after slavery was abolished.


Now, their fault is they didn’t listen to us when we tried to tell them!
