It started over 10 years ago when everyone started growing their hair for locs and those sponge fros.

I started growing my hair and had about a 2" fro. All I wanted was a taper on the sides and back, not even facial line up. Fool charged me $25 and this was in the Midwest. I had been there a few times in the past with waves and cut was like $12 then I throw in a tip. He said cause I had a fro and it was harder to blend :what: . Fam, you are a barber this shouldn't be hard for you #1. And #2, he was acting like I was Ben Wallace with my lil ass fro

Good. fukk’em. Forget the black economist who made the TikTok about a year ago but it’s price gouging with what’s happening now. With the most extreme inflation estimate, a $25 haircut in 2019 shouldn’t cost more than $31 today. IDGAF if you’re sharing a shop or running independently, to charge more should be a crime. Nothing about the experience or how they perform the cutting task has changed or improved the cut. nikkas wanna throw words like luxury or premium in front of fade or lineup like this shyt is new apartment complex and think that justifies the price hike. I moved from the States to Africa. Like lemme say right now a haircut in Kenya is 200 shillings which is the equivalent of a dollar something.

When I saw how low that shyt was I was :krs:

Like I could literally get a haircut for fun..and they throw in massages and other random shyt to a point I feel like I'm ripping them off .

So the difference in currency. I feel it even when I travel from Kenya to Uganda or Tanzania. shyt is cheap to a point you are :wtf:

That's why I want black folks from the states to come around.white folk out here taking advantage yet black folks are chasing differences and saying that it's not home as a reason to not enjoy the benefits. I'd rather have my black homies than these random low key racist white people. Consider it. You are most welcome. And a simple thing like a haircut being 2 dollars while also maintaining time in both spaces will improve your quality of life

A piar of clippers is like 100-200 dollars and last for years. The math on that is alone stops my need for a barbershop
I can even Steven some shyt

but I straight duck the fade or a line up

im looking like Eddie Munster out here lol

Above the fray.

Ive stated my opinion on this multiple times, and the facts seem to support my take.

During the pandemic, when large % of the country was home, barbers saw the true value of their services. Dudes were masking up, and risking health and life to get line ups, shaves, and haircuts. To work from home.

Towards the end and after the health scare was over, barbers raised their prices. Why wouldnt they? Clearly seen as a premium service by a segment of people, why not charge premium prices, maybe cut fewer people, but make more money?

In LA there are coworking type spots with units for barbers and stylists. You got people running independent more than ever. You probably pay around $20 for a cut still too. You are the past
Yeah in SD they have salon Studio's my barber had one like his own private 2 person shop for him and his son who was also a barber. They made their own hours and schedules and just rented the space. They could decorate it however they wished. The whole place had like 30 studios and they were all full with barbers, hairdressers, and massage therapists.

Way more Black men have gone natural or get a line up more so than hair cut. My youngest son and most of his friends just get their hairline done. My oldest rocks braids or a big Afro and my next son has locks. I've had locks since 1990.
We not exempt.......them cats want the same price whether its a bald fade or a line up.......I have been to a few places that refuse to separate the cost of an actual cut and a line up as separate items

Unless a barber is in my friend group breh, I aint letting no random ass barber in my house........and knowing some barbershop im ot going to a residential barber
And we are in the minority. Just because we won’t do it doesn’t mean the majority of people won’t.

Remember this is also including salons and women been doing this shyt forever. Most hair stylists only get a chair or a booth in a salon to get clients and once they have a nice clientele they bounce and do that shyt from the crib, simply put it’s just cheaper.

Barbershops and Hair salons are going to be extinct soon because when the rent goes up the owner has to charge a higher booth rent and then the barber or stylist has to charge more for their services.
