So, if the name isn't White AKA a European sounding name, then it doesn't have any meaning :jbhmm:

Let's name the child Cleatus :pachaha:

No...there are actual African names...

What the fukk does Quantavious mean...

And like I said before...

Most "Black American names" are actually French, Italian and Arabic names...

There is no such thing as Black American names...we don't have our own language to create such a thing...

Above the fray.
There are generic societal "norms", mainly created by white people, and some names are outside of those norms. It's just another way to discriminate.
created by white anglo saxon protestants....the golden rule........he who has the gold makes the rules

which is why ethnic whites anglicize their names and don't name their children names from their heritage/culture but standard wasp names.

also why you'll have foreigners who have real first names and the American first name that they use

What’s truly ironic is that if a man named Dwayne and a woman named Keisha have a daughter and name her Dwaneisha (a fusion of their names) it actually makes more sense than a lot of white names.

White people today name their kids after the stupidest shyt:

Ryder
Cash
Hunter
Axle
Nevaeh (Heaven backwards :mjlol:)

But then have the nerve to name their dog George :dead:

There’s for sure such thing as Black American names. Everyone knows our names when they hear them. It’s to the point you’ll have some non Black Americans even give their kids names like “Devante” or “Deshaun”, now.

A lot of those names like Quentavia or Deontray that "sound funny" were ushered in during the pro black, civil rights era... thru movements like the black panthers trying to break away from Euro dominated norms..

IMO a "bootleg" or "ghetto" ass name is when cats be naming their kids after products....Like I know a family where all of the kids were named after tangible items like... Pleighboy, Atari, Hennessey, Alize, etc... :snoop:

All meaning applied to a name/word was made up. So, nothing is “ghetto” about giving your child an untraditional name. There’s a high chance the name probably will not have a nice ring but the world needs less mikes, james, john, ashley, jennifer etc.

I know women named TyKeithia naming their daughter Madison and McKenzie like won’t still be raised in impoverished neighborhoods. It’s not the name that’s the problem, it’s the impoverished behaviors that fukk a child up.

In my opinion, those names aren't ghetto and they are indigenous names. You know why Whites use that excuse? Because they want us to remain Europeanized. Yep, they want AA's to continue to be Negropeans :snoop: In Nigeria, they have Nigerian/Igbo sounding names. Same with Ethiopia and Kenya.

We are a special people and I said that before. When you here a name, Quaisha it's not ghetto. Look at Afro-Boricua names.

I've seen some AA's use that Black ghetto name line. Don't fall for that shyt. Same way they indoctrinated you with a false Jesus is the same way they are trying to indoctrinate you with your name and identity. Trying to get you to change your name.

There's one clown who advocated for that bullshyt even though I'm subbed to him.

So, the answer is no, Black sounding names AREN'T ghetto and this lady explains it here.

I had this conversation with my brother the other night. He said names like "sharkesha" were ridiculous.

I said, I don't know because you have to think about how these names came about. The reason why some of us have the names we do is because, white people want(ed) us to be like them. So, when I see a name like "Sharkesha" I think that is a response to white supremacy. And it's sad that we have to do that.

I've heard both sides of the argument. I hear your point.

I don't think these new age names are a response to ws, racism, or the dominant culture.I think it's from people trying to be different.
In the late 60s/early 70s...some Black people were deliberately rejecting the dominant culture and giving their children ethnic African or Arabic names.(and at least looking up the origin/meaning of the name)Lot of 50 year old and mid 40s Black folks here with those names.
And during the diaspora war threads people conventiently forget to mention that in the 1980s..Black folks regressed in some ways and went back to sleep. These "African" names that were the trend in the 70s.....were ridiculed and made fun of in the 80s.
I just posted the "Here come Tolu" line from Patrice O'neal in an earlier post as a spoiler.

With these new age names I don't think it's a rejection of anything....just trying to find a unique name for the child . I always associated the new age names with the NGE (Nations of Gods and Earths) and their influence and thought it was mainly an east coast urban thing which spread.
