There’s definitely a Far Left wing of the Democratic Party. But they get treated like a drunk uncle that the mainstream Dems are too embarrassed to invite to family functions because they’re scared of the GOP viewing them all that way. The funny thing is the GOP calls anything slightly left of center Far Left anyway so the mainstream Dems need to just embrace it. But they’ll never have the balls to do it.
The GOP embraced their more radical elements and it got them the presidency.
Rashida Tlaib/Bernie Sanders are a slightly left-of-center; worldwide s/he would scarcely be a Labor Party guy. I agree with the rest of your analysis though. Anything that even "smells" like regulation is deemed to be "socialist" or "Marxist" - because of the failure of political and economic education of the American public.
That's the result of racial capitalism
We've developed a political system that allows for any gains to be walked back and one of the most openly corrupt electoral bodies one could even conceive of. The Republicans are fascistic or at best fascist-adjacent (fascism is authoritarian corporatism, for anyone who wants a clear definition of it) - any "bipartisanship" is a death-knell to human and civil rights.
As others have said...politicians want power/influence, but needs money/long career to attain both, thus are lap dogs for corporations/lobbyist groups/special interest firms and needs to pay(via money/feel good in tummy/hiring) apologist/shills to secure votes by lying/misleading/exaggerating to the masses that their politician is different
The fear by Dems is that the dynamics of Repub party being exposed as similar to their own party:
-Old guards blocking new guards because they fund raise more/influence is greater
-not everybody agreeing to past common beliefs
notice I mentioned nothing about them wanting to solve problems....so we need to adopt beliefs/principles that are beyond politics...example, no candidate loses or gains my vote talmbot being for community safety or against unnecessary wars
Both sides arguments are usually just deflections.
they are different. especially when it comes to economics. Tax policies for example are pretty much the complete opposite. most people should at least be willing to admit that and form a clear preference between both parties if they believe everything else is the same. and some do.
but honestly If we went issue by issue down a list i'm pretty sure we would find very few places where they have the same general consensus.
Guns: not the same
Healthcare: not the same
Immigration: not the same
Covid: not the same
affirmative action: not the same
abortion: not the same
etc
-2nd amendment is clearly being viewed favorably by most citizens, as the recent increase in gun sales show
-Healthcare fundamental problem is rising premiums, which both parties won't address because of insurance/pharmaceutical donation needs
-illegals taking citizens' jobs was once a bipartisan/"beyond politics" view, until Obama reelection and Trump election
-You can't "crush the virus" OR "control the pandemic" until a vaccine
-Cases where affirmative action exclusively/mostly benefit Black folks, then you'll have other community members regardless of party attacking it
-Religion is the core of the abortion debate, but because of the desire for votes/donations and popularity of religion, both parties debate each other instead of religion

This is actually false. Health coverage was the primary issue. When someone uninsured gets medical attention and doesn't pay. Tax payers carry the burden of that cost
