I have been an active member on this forum since 2006, BMW are great cars, I personally feel you need a warranty on them since parts are expensive. If you are getting a e30, you are going to have to put work into the car since its a 20 year old car. At the end of the day not matter what car company you go with, there will be electrical problems problems all over. Parts get worn down and eventually you will have to replace most parts so it gets very expensive...If you have any specific questions I can definitely assist you when it comes to bimmers..

OK so right now I dont really care about how expensive shyt will be because I have mechanic buddies and my uncle does body and paint work. But right now with me in terms of the older luxuries I'm eyeing gthe late 80s 190E or the late 80s 30 or the e34. Which would be the better choice and which would be easier to repair when needed?

Benz cars are not good cars in my honest opinion. My boy himself works for Mercedes and said all the sales managers drive bmw's that says alot. Apart from that the driving experience is night and day between the two. BMW are true driving cars, you feel the road, thats why they said once you drive one you are a customer for life. Just like with apple, customers are loyal that is a direct connection why out of the Top 10 companies Apple and BMW are in the top 3, there are many sites on this I just googled to show you the connection this one had bmw as #1 apple as #5. BMW are much more reliable than Mercedes also and if you do your research you will see how they have record profits, last year they made the highest profits in history..I am a business person so this is what talks to me. Also with BMW you have much more of a following when it comes to car enthusiasts, and when that happens you have much more options as far as aftermarket parts. (BMW is like a honda civic when it comes to after market parts and car clubs). I would do away with the mercedes, I told 2 people my friend and my uncle they didnt listen to me and sold the benz within a year.

Thats crazy because Ive had a Sony TV for 10 years, PS1, PS2 and PS3, had this Apple computer for 3 years now. So I might as well try and get a BM. But the only thing is what model and what year is good? I want one but dont know which to look at. Coupe or sedan it doesnt matter.

Like is this a good deal?

I 189k in miles is alot so you are going to be putting some serious dollars, natually at the 100k mark parts start to wear so I am sure some of the parts are already changed but its at the point where you are going to have to change it again. The 3 series models are most popular but 5s are good too. You are in New York and that is a state where BMW's are very popular so there are many mechanics, best thing to do i have one go to the car and give their honest opinion. They will let you know once they look at the engine if it is a good buy. Some people take really good care of their cars and a mechanic can easily tell beyond cosmetic problems. go to bimmerpost.com and check out the forums you will see alot as well as cars people are selling just to get an idea. look at like the e30 or e39 forums for good older cars for 5 series e39s were good.

The Opposite Of Elliott Wilson's Mohawk
Its a lot of things

First u gotta know which cars are actually problematic. I would say any Benz from before 93-94 should be fine. That is when Benz started cutting costs to compete with the Japanese.

I wouldnt buy ANY used 7 series. Likewise Iw ouldnt buy ANY old Bimmer with an automatic transmission.

Parts are not that expensive. Like the dude who had to change the muffler on his 190E. You dont have to get an OEM muffler, you can get a universal one for like $100 installed.

Like any old 25 year old car though there are gonna be problems. If you are not mechanically savvy that shyt will add up. So you have to ask yourself, are you looking at these cars cause you want that emblem, or do you actually appreciate what they have to offer? Because real talk, something Japanese (like an old Lexus GS or even a loaded up Maxima) will give you 99% of the experience with about 15% of the headaches. You get a old Maxima w/a clean body, the motor will run forever, transmissions are good, just stay on top of maintenance and you will be straight.

Just depends on the quality of car and if you are going to work on it yourself. A good condition E30/E36 is not a bad buy.

The 5 and 7 series are the ones that will really get you in trouble, no matter the age.

Ok here's a question. If I bought a BMW for 3000 and it needed 600 worth of work or a 3600 dollar maxima, which is better?

So the 3 series is legit? And yea that's why I want it. Because I want to teach myself how to fix it do I won't have to rely on a mechanic.
