Chatted with someone I met at the store who was visiting from the Bay Area. She told me she’s paying $6200 renting a 5 bedroom house in Petaluma.

:scust:

that rent is comparable to the mortgage on like a $1M crib, so that number isn't astronomical given the area. I have a 5BR crib, and my mortgage is only $1470. but then again, I'm in the midwest.

Hell no, nikkas rent and don’t contribute to roads?

It's usually factored in to your rent, so technically you do pay those taxes even if you're only renting.

Property taxes are a scam...Other countries you buy your home/land you own it forever....:beli: the country doesnt scheme to get you to relinquish what you work so hard to own...

It's fukking redundant that you pay thousands of dollars work years to own your home BUT if you dont pay property taxes if they increase you can get your home taken away???:what: then what the fukk was the point it seems like a scam to me...

Your house (usually) exists in a community where you have to use the roads, traffic lights, street lights, schools, municipal services, etc. etc. etc. That costs money.

Those costs are separate from your mortgage/homeowner's insurance. You may have a contract where your property taxes are factored into your mortgage payment (like mine), so it's not like you start paying property taxes only when your house is paid off. You pay it the entire time.

First world countries also do charge property taxes (several do so at much higher rates.) There are definitely countries that don't charge property taxes, but is the standard of living the same?

What else are you willing to give up in order to not pay one specific tax?

Where in Michigan? :dahell:

Detroit taxes cheap as hell, it’s the late fees that get people.
Oakland County specifically Southfield taxes is off the chain and have been for the last 20 years. I sure they shyt way higher than St. Clair shores and Birmingham.

Ironically, more than half the countries with no property taxes are filthy rich. Genuinely great places to live with world class infrastructure and amenties.
