Are rappers with hood/poverty backgrounds better than those who aren't from the "hood struggle"?

It def gives them something to rap about that's y all the best rappers come from the struggle

definitely, rappers that come from the hood have most likely gone through more than someone from the suburbs/ someone who comes from money

You are not a real rap fan

And probably from the suburbs

It all makes sense now
Ok:francis:

Hood rappers can always lean on

Getting it from the mud
Being the realest nikka ever
Trap tales
Draco tales

It's so easy... this is a hit and we know nothing about him other than he a hood nikka just from the song content

Depends on what counts as poverty backgrounds.

For one - until recently if you weren't from/close to a major city you couldn't blow - wouldn't have the network around you to succeed unless you moved. Could be from a mudhut in SC.

I actually think being from the hood but having certainly things right like a good family was an advantage. Might be a bit chicken and the egg but a lot of top MC's were honour-roll students. Anyone can be smart but Biggie's crystal clear diction in raps I attribute to having an educated English teacher for a mother. Pac as well, being raised around Panthers and going to performing arts school gave him a unique education and perspective.
