Are "socially awkward" people less respected than "normal" folks

If so why? And why is it seen as acceptable to disrespect them?


Also I'm referring to men and women as my gf has had issues with this as well.

If you have poor behavior in a social setting, then you deserve whatever kind of treatment you get. If you don't know any better because of your upbringing or whatever then I can empathize but will not sympathize especially if you're an adult.
