you have to adapt to each kid IMO...my parents had a base level of expectations for all of us, but while my middle bro needed more rules, my parents didn't really bother me too much because i was always pretty mature and generally showed good judgement and was able to keep myself on track.

Yeah every kid is different and I think the best thing parents can do is to get to know their kids.

It depends on how you look at it. Yes he was successful but at the same time he had a lot of self hate issues he was socially awkward and was trying to be Peter Pan in his 30’s. Abusive strict can cause detrimental effects into adulthood.

facts. im not trying to be an ungrateful c*nt but it really is a complex issue. when i think about my current life, i fukked up but i somehow still made it ahead of a lot of my peers. me getting in trouble internally reinforced what they were trying to tell me the whole time. i just didn’t see it through at first. it multiplied my discipline and isolation and made me work even harder once i discovered human nature for myself.

if you’re not given guided freedom and practical advice outside of “read your books” you can become a follower of others and chase the wrong things by looking at instant gratification and the fear of missing out

you end up having to live up to an image that’s established by your high discipline, academic success, and family legacy but if you burnout or start fukking up then you feel like the world is crashing and get mad anxiety still trying to keep up the facade of people’s prior perception of you.

you also may become more prone to being easily influenced by others and if you get in trouble or taken advantage of dealing with the wrong people, you may start to build some resentment for not being raised to more socially aware/tactful
