Are we ready to admit that most rappers can't "freestyle"?

I remember going to this underground warehouse MANY years ago, I think it was 2000.

And one of the mcs was Abra Cadabra (not sure the spelling) and another Okie Doke. (again not sure the spelling)

Someone in the crowd yelled out an item or waved an item, and they'd take turns freestyling on the item while dissing each other based off the item. That shyt was wild.

I read what you wrote.

Okay. But freestyling is not impossible for most anyone. And ppl have said very proud rhymes off the top.

Here's a video of me freestyling for 10 minutes. I'm far from great, but it was fun.

Freestyling always has its moments.

This reminds me of the DMX/Snoop verzuz when they did the freestyle. Pretty easy to hear when they started going off the head

Most rappers spit pre written rhymes and pass them off as freestyles. Super Nat is still the greatest Freestyler of all time IMO.

It's becoming a lost art because you barely have to be able to rap at all now

This. I was born in 83. We used to freestyle all the time from elementary through college. Over a beat tape, over someone tapping a pencil, over nothing. If its a skill you possess, its not really that hard. Im :flabbynsick:and can do it in my sleep because ive been doing it for fun sincs i was like 8. I think if youre naturally gifted at it u never lose it....it just gets rusty and repetition sharpens it back up.

But yeah rappers have always used pre writtens and some truly freestyle.

Maybe I'm just not around enough younger dudes, but I didn't even think people still spit in cyphers, let alone freestyle.

Shyt really ain't that complicated if you started rhyming when freestyling was a prerequisite to getting any respect around your peers who rapped. Some of us took it more seriously but it's just like any other skill. Practice often enough and you get better at it.

This here.

In the 90's, the dope MC's could freestyle off the dome ALL DAY!

Most of the dudes from back then, can still get busy with it today. But after that generation, the standard for what a dope MC is and what that means dropped so crazily, that these people today can barely rap regular. They definitely ain't got no freestyle skills.
