If you're looking for a good faith convo, there might be one to be had

- The bar is extremely low for non-Nintendo platformers, and Astrobot knocked it out of the park
- The bar is extremely high for Nintendo platformers and DK delivers on that expectation, but doesn't raise the bar in any meaningful way
- Astrobot leans a bit more towards an older crowd and is slightly more challenging
- Astrobot is a celebration of PlayStation as a brand, which doesn't often lean into itself that way

I think the desire to see games like Astrobot releasing on platforms OTHER than Nintendo, and it being very good swayed people a bit more than DK coming out and being another great Nintendo platformer that we all expect at this point

I thought Astro was really easy. Even the challenge levels were easy to figure out after a couple tries. DLC levels are tough tho.

This gonna be another thread where people argue over games they never played tho

It wasn't that hard but it's definitely got more challenge than the vast majority of Bananza. Some of those challenge levels in Astro gave me a hard time lol

Have not played Bananza.

But way back when, i complained about the lack of challenge in Mario Odyssey.

Astro is easier than Odyssey, and has less physics/moves to mess around with.

It’s clear these games exist just to give a nostalgia rush to vets, and a fun non-frustrating experience to newcomers.

For me, that ain’t enough tho, these games can’t be GOTY cause so many other games offer something new and challenging.

I don’t get a GOTY vote tho….so :manny:

I hope you bought a switch 2 for your kids.

Old ass nikka
@Fatboi1 is probably older than me. You too.

I never proclaimed a person needs to buy a game/system day one.

I’ve always said people should, and do play games under whatever timeline feels good for them personally. Patient gamers always win :ehh:

When i say things like that, i’m immediately met with people claiming that’s bullshyt and they ain’t no “waiting ass nikka”

@Fatboi1 is one of those people.

Im just forcing him to speak out against his own rhetoric in the past.

You should probably mind your business

You thought Astro was easier than Odyssey? That game has like zero challenge unless you tackle the Dark/Darker Side of the Moon postgame stuff

I think Astro is great but I agree that it was an unusual GOTY choice

I have not completed Astro yet, but the moment to moment gameplay is a lot simpler than Mario odyssey.

MO has more detailed physics, and more moves like the somersault, hat jump, etc.

Astro is really simple in that context. It’s just a standard jump and run, with less weight/physics to manage.

The levels for both are very easy with the only actual challenge residing in optional quest/collection stuff and even that stuff is mostly easy till you got to the last few levels.

GOTY is more about hype than anything else.

No other genre of any entertainment do i put weight in what critics have to say.

theres a very specific critical, online community that would make astobot a GOTY. I’ve never agreed with them :manny:
