Yeah most of the music I listen to is older than 5 years. The "new" music Im discovering these days isnt new, its just old shyt I never heard before. But shyt from the 90s up to the late 2010s makes up most of library. And all kinds of shyt, Three 6 Mafia, MC Eiht, Primus, Ghost, Waka Flocka, Spacegostpurrp, Bran Van 3000, even film and video game scores. I just love music mayne.

All the time. My tastes are exceedingly eclectic from digging in dusty record stores back when. One of the best things about the net is that it expanded my musical horizons infinitely and I'm constantly discovering new styles, artists, genres etc..

The downside is there is immense amounts of derivative crap out there you've got to sift through as digital is a free for all with no quality control but when it hits, its hits. The reason why the old stuff does what it does is due to neural traces, higher hormone concentrations, novel experiences and a variety of other bits and bobs that make it feel quite special.

Step your neuro-plasticity up and the old days can become the current days which paves the way to constant self improvement and discovery of higher states of being.

39 here as well. I don't actively seek out new music, but occasionally a YouTube video will have some decent background music that will have me looking for it. Also recently, that new show Bel-Air put me on to some good stuff I'd never heard before.

33 and I still can’t leave it alone out here like a fiend on friday mornings

:mjcry:

I admit I get overwhelmed by the volume of new music that drops like everyday. I went from saving to buy one album every few weeks as a teen, to checking the blogs and only downloading what I wanted to having everything of every genre available at once on Tidal and Apple music.

There’s not enough time for it all

One of the most amazing things about music for me is how it can totally shift your vibe. I've never been in the "Its just entertainment" camp as I know life is vibration, frequency, resonance so your awareness sloshes around inside a cup shaped by the artist which in turns effects your concepts by either stoking fires or providing a vent for what was already present on some level.

As that "Switch it up in 93" showed the music of an era reflects the people as well as molding them at the same time. Its a very interesting state of play when you think about it and its why the drummer was always the main player in an military maneuvers as he set the tone for the troops.

The net has immortalized old jams that otherwise would've remained unheard as well as allowing you to vibe something someone made dolo and just shared. Thats mindblowing when you think about it.

Also having broad tastes makes you realize how stale and repetitive mainstream music is as its exceedingly formulaic. This in turn says a lot about modern people because this thotty, trappy mumbling stumbling style has been reigning supreme over the masses for how long now? It shows no sign of abating and its grip is exceedingly pervasive. Stranger still everyone who "wants in" makes the same sound, style and topic. No matter where they're from.

That is insane when you think about it. No one genre has remained on top for so long with so little innovation. Its like Rap is the new Disco.

I don't listen as much as I did, kind of overwhelmed by all the stuff that is out there (that includes movies, books, shows, sports, etc...) so I don't really know what to choose. Means that a lot of the "new stuff" I eventually listen to is kind of old by the time I get around to listening to it.

I must say, I severely miss the "blog era" of the early/mid 2010s. After the 90s (my teen years) that's when music had me the more hyped. Not saying that there isn't tons of good stuff out now, but I don't get that same thrill anymore as when I was digging and discovering entire subgenres. Actually been going back digging on BC and SC these past few days and looking for instrumental "cloud rap" stuff from that era.

Always love discovering new music. If you love music, you should always love being exposed to new sounds. Spotify Radio suggestions based on other songs I like does provide me a way to get into artists I would never listen to.

Most modern mainstream music I can take or leave though. I get a lot of suggestions for "alternative R&B".

I've had this one on repeat for a few days recently.

Also this one.

More of a music experimentalist. I research listen and learn about different genres of music. Like study their “golden era” it’s creation and it’s impact in their culture. My late father was an audiophile he put me on from Rap to African Music apart from Afrobeat.

Remember doing countless papers on Hip Hop and various genres back then.

Like other posters said, once you discover other genres mainstream music looks pale and soulless in comparison. A lot of music internationally peaked in the 60s towards the early 00s. We in the fast food era where music is accessible.
