I'm sure that's not the first time a large party has come into that place to eat. They saw that tip amount and wanted a piece. Cooks don't never get tips and they get paid a higher hourly rate than waiters/waitresses.

because the people in the kitchen had to prepare 40 meals all at once. i worked in a restaurant when i was a kid and i always thought it was fukked up that i had to slave away in the kitchen only for a waitress to get tipped over how good a job i did with their food. only on rare occasions did savvy people come to the kitchen to tip us personally. it was especially fukked up when they would seat a customer 5 minutes before closing then bounce after getting the check, while the rest of us had to stay behind and clean up all the dishes and shyt.

is it fukked up that the waiters get paid 1.35 a hour and the cooks get teens at minimum? Do the cooks ever give a waiters some pay on a slow night?

Waitresses generally net higher pay than cooks regardless, so i don't really care what the pay rate they get is.
If you work at mcdonalds or 4 star fine dining restaurant with high rollers tipping you 20% on $100 dollar steaks and $80 drinks, the cook in the back still making minimum wage.

I only ever had this happen during a special occasions. like if we are working on Christmas day or like in this situation where a very large party shows up.

I have seen some places do this, where they collect all the tips in one jar and then split it evenly among the wait staff each day. But it would be kinda shady to suddenly start doing this after landing a $4000 if you hadn't been doing it before.

But the kitchen workers actually make minimum wage at least while servers do not. So if it's dead outside and they make no tips are you'll still make your money so are you breaking bread with them
