Arnold Schwarzenegger vs. Sylvester Stallone: Who had the better '80s filmography? Strictly 80s, between them two who was the bigger star? Explain.

Which star had the better and more memorable run during the '80s?

Listen. Im from nyc

Sly is a god

But arnolds the guy

Arnolds movies are higher tier

Sly has rocky and rambo. Great series but all the other films were lower tier even if i love em.

But arnold.

Conan is a DUMB classic
Terminator
Predator
Terminator 2
Twins
Total recall

Are all better than any sly movie except first blood and rockys.

Sly makes better dramas. Way better actor. First blood. Rocky. TRUE CLASSIC films. Cop land great movie.

Rambo 2 is great film. Great acting. Action all that. But commando was fun. Better one liners. More ridiculous. A movie.

Arnold makes better comedies and action.kindergarten cop. Twins > tango and cash. THO… people sleeping on 90s sly DEMOLITION MAN and CLIFFHANGER were HEATTTTTT. So was last action hero.

Arnold is bigger “star” whos movies feel more well made and defined early on because he worked with better directors and had more interesting plots. Slys plots had more heart.

When it comes down to their dirty low budget action flicks. Cobra. Raw deal. Nighthawks. Get carter. Assassins. Eraser. Etc. they pretty even. Might give it to sly actually. He had iller down and dirty realistic pictures versus arnolds big over the top stuff.

Sly had the better post 2000s career too but arnold became a politician.

But forever

Arnold
Sly
Van damme

Holy trinity of 80s/90s action. Never to be duplicated.

Final: sly better actor, great all around, but his smaller budget films are his better movies. Arnold bigger star feel. His big budget pictures just iconic. Plus arnold made the comedy action genre exist. Die hard wouldnt exist if it wasnt for arnolds comedy presence.

Big franchise movies: arnold
Smaller budget action: sly
Sci fi/ Fantasy: arnold
Drama/Realism: sly
Comedy: arnold but sly has demolition man which is comedy classic as well. Last action hero underrated.

So this one is inspired by my last thread between Denzel and Wesley. So I decided to make one about two of the biggest stars of the '80s :yeshrug:.

Both of these guys were at the height of their careers during the 80s, and had somewhat of a rivalry over who was the better actor and box office hitmaker.

In the 80s, Stallone was already on the rise in popularity due to his portrayal of Rocky Balboa gained larger fame thanks in part to the hit sequels, but also became more popular from playing arguably and shockingly his most memorable character as John Rambo. He also starred in a few cheesy yet cult favorites such as Nighthawks, Cobra, Lockup, and Tango & Cash but still disappointed fans with a few duds.

Whereas with Arnold, he had Conan the Barbarian, The Terminator, Commando, Raw Deal, and Predator under his belt, which helped make him one of Hollywood's top actors of the '80s. He also laid some goose eggs during the 80s with a few not-so-stellar action and fantasy flicks. Besides his roles as The Terminator and maybe Dutch from Predator, his '80s characters are not as memorable as Stallone's.

Ironically, both of them had somewhat of a down period during the '90s with a hit or two in between, but they never matched the success of the '80s.

Arnold's '80s movies:
'80 • N/A
'81 • N/A
'82 • Conan The Barbarian
'83 • N/A
'84 • Conan The Destroyer, The Terminator
'85 • Red Sonja, Commando
'86 • Raw Deal
'87 • Predator, The Running Man
'88 • Red Heat, Twins
'89 • N/A

Stallone's 80s movies:
'80 • N/A
'81 • Nighthawks, Escape to Victory
'82 • Rocky III, First Blood
'83 • Staying Alive
'84 • Rhinestone
'85 • Rambo: First Blood Part II, Rocky IV
'86 • Cobra
'87 • Over the Top
'88 • Rambo III
'89 • Lock Up, Tango & Cash
Arnold predator and terminator put him over the top

Maybe. But Rocky III and IV and Rambo II and III are the quintessential 80's movies. If somebody asked me to name a scene from a movie that epitomizes that decade, this would be my choice:

Correct, if you take away Rocky 4, Sly's 80's movies look odd... I would even say that Mel Gibson had better movies than Sly in the 80s.
