Last rap album I bought was this.

I have no idea who most current rappers are.

Sometime in the 2010's. I even lost interest in my favorite artists dropping new music unless people were saying it was must listen. I reminisce on the days I had every hip hop magazine, was on every site tweaking for the next best thing.

Non mainstream, non mumble street rap never really fell off to me. The 10’s were a little slow, but this last five year run has been great for the genre.

Musical biases aside, here's some examples of 80/90's legacy acts still making good music over modern production.

Here's some examples of some rappers that keep it street/underground, but switched up the message to financial independence and family values instead of popping bottles, opps, and xannys all day

Drill rap was never mainstream in hindsight
Fair enough, but in rap circles it’s a lot more prevalent.

Right now I listen to 90’s rappers and Blog Rappers. So maybe I’ll really listen to 2-5 albums a year based on what that group drops. I want to say 2017 I was listening to triple that amount.
