Of all the "gimmicks" to hate as black people, apparently this was the one we hated the most.

Not the drugdealing, gangbanging, black KKKLANSMAN gimmick, but this one.
Aint that something...I was 14 when they dropped and me and my friends laughed at "that ol righteous back to Africa ass shyt" and we willingly chose Dre and Snoop and all the other negative shyt that led the music to where it is today. We should've chose different or at least kept the balance

That's disingenuous. There are plenty of positive, afrocentric rappers that got and still get love.

They were wack as fukk, like Public Enemy for fakkits :hhh:
Two hit wonder.

Had to see these fake Africans performing on stage barefoot, doing "Mr Windell" with some nappy head homeless man as a prop on stage.

:dead:

I see that, and raise you this. :bryan:

Tennessee was rooted in ADOS and some other tracks on first album.

They leaned to far into mythical Africa is one country and created some eutopia image and folks is living wrong in the USA by the second album. Obviously that's not gonna hold up in this modern USA where folks ain't insecure they are ADOS and did the heavy lifting of creating the USA.

Might check out their other albums in Spotify to see if they switched it up to a ADOS focus.

It’s funny how their music and others that were dissed has withstood the test of time. Lol at having to choose between this or gangsta rap. I LIKED BOTH! That’s why people ask for balance because we once had it.

I agree. Speeche's solo stuff is corny as hell though.

Arrested had like three hits and sold 4 million records. "People Everyday", "Tennessee" and "Mr. Wendel" were all hits.
I know. Mr. Wendel was so gay and wack I don't consider it a hit. It really charted like the other two? Also, that was the start of the rap boom period. Any song properly pushed and catching on took you platinum. The two big songs, especially "People Everyday" was the equivalent of a huge viral song today. Can't miss sample, and R and B enough to draw in the older crowd, like Killing Me Softly, which is the SOLE reason The Score sold 2/3 those copies. I got my copy because my mother's co-worker gave it away after learning it wasn't an R and B album and hating the rest :mjlol:
