I like them. "Climb the trees my forefathers hung from." How is that a corny line? I mean, they had some corny aspects, but their stuff holds up better than others from that early 90s era, like NWA talking about basically raping chicks and Dr. Dre bending over Luke and fitting between the gap in his teeth. Now that's corny.

That wasn't an act. That was them. They were original and they had the world rocking. Gumbo was nice too before their popularity faded. Further, a group of people taking about how a nikka can get stomped by an African isn't self righteous its enlightening.

I always thought they were like a dime store De La Soul, and by 1992-1993 De La had switched styles basically twice already. They were outdated when they came out. I appreciate the message they were trying to bring but even as a supporter of the pro-black shyt, they were corny especially in comparison to edgier guys like Ice Cube.

Every time I hear one of their tracks on Backspin it reminds me of how much I hated them as a kid. These Freddie & Sha'zaa from A Different World looking nikkas was always on the radio or MTV and the Box. Had to see these fake Africans performing on stage barefoot, doing "Mr Windell" with some nappy head homeless man as a prop on stage. I'm not sure, but I'd bet they were getting awards in 93/94 that should have been going to Dre/Snoop/Wu/Tribe etc...
Is my hate over the top?

Fukk outta here with this 'go along with the herd or else' weak ass mentality. Its an opinion. All Im saying is that this board complains endlessly about the fact that ignorance, materialism, and white rappers have completely taken over the industry --- yet, y'all ridicule a positive pro black group and call them corny. For what? Seems like y'all just live to hate....I mean I get that they were so-so musically, but I think as a black man you should at least respect them...unless you're a honky, which would make perfect sense.
