this is the other most influential song for me with The Message. I can give you this record word for word any day any time. right down to the "URUH"'s.

Just off 4 songs Melle Mell is top 10.

just to cosign, this...
big mel, can recite beatstreet word for word on time, and in the right tone, too.
even i can't recite beatstreet, word for word.

its very nice of you to try to educate the youth. hopefully at least one of them appreciates this.

more than 1 will. i already can tell Yoda is sponging up some game. if people love something, and i truly believe some of the younger kids here do love hip hop, they will want to educate themselves. me & art aren't even old dudes and we were curious youngsters at one time that sought out older stuff. it was just waaaaay harder back then. lol. i've sat in funky ass, dank basements searching thru records for 8 hours a clip.

Everywhere...You never there.
@Art Barr

...never replied to you directly before (not including SOHH of course), but your posts lately have had a rare clarity and focus. You usually drop jewels regardless, but lately the nuggets have been sharp, identifiable and not muddled amid the (sometimes) superfluous details.

What's goin' on man?

Good post and thread tho.

when I thought about this thread.
I knew I had to put records on here, that I actually had as part of my life.

there are classics, and then there are perfect classics.
originally,...I will admit.
it took a while for me to just give into buying the lead twelve, when the single was out.
it was not until the dem dare hothouse party, when twilite tone spun the twelve to best kept secret.
did I make it a mission to own the single and later the lp.
oh, was I glad I did.
I literally carried this record on me, for a decade straight after that.

from 92-01, I had this record in the tape format with me everyday.
I probably listened to this record, at least once or two times a day everyday since 92-01, easy.
a lot of classic were in my bag, but for some odd reason..well it was not odd, at all.
this record never got cycled out, till i made the full conversion to cd, and digital.

Art, how do you feel about Herbie Hancock's "Rockit"? Personally I never liked it...

still one of my favorite moments in history.
my bestfriend was fat, and I would try to compete.
so, this record was pretty much the soundtrack to every meal I had as a shawty.
