My gma and grandpa from the south.

I respect them southern folks
They cool. Just dont know why they still live by those annoying southern racist cacs
Because the families that didn't go the "great migration" north have land/property/roots that they we are loyal to. Also why dealing with racist cacs isn't difficult...everywhere is black people be on some "wow a racist" type shyt.... we stiff arm and kim.

I'm not downing black people in the south. Both of my parents are from the south. I just recognize, from my experiences with northern and southern blacks, the the former always seem to be more learned and sophisticated. My mother told me that they started their family up north because they preferred the culture of black people and the opportunities. They also felt we'd have a better education up north, which I don't disagree with.:yeshrug:
We call this culturally assimilationism and a simple tactic to appear unseparate from the dominant culture in these northern areas. In a way... a loss of unique black culture, masked, or forgotten. It's not all bad, but I can understand why the false superiority will manifest tho.

LOL The dozens has absolutely nothing to with putting rhymes together.
And second of all toasting was not exclusive to the South. Black Hustler's all over the country would repeat toast that would circulate in the prison and ghettos. Hip Hop is better than just rapping.
Toasting wasn’t exclusive but it all originated in the South. The point is, it’s stupid for AA’s outside of the South to diss the same place that the shyt they do originated from.

BTW toasting and the dozens are VERY related, and yes the dozens involved rhyming. Your probably thinking of simple “yo mama” jokes, it’s more than that.

@Marcelrellu is NOT aa, stop claiming the set, and there are NO majority black areas in Cali. You are SURROUNDED by sophisticated racists.
PS: most of the anti south posters have foreigner parents and feel excluded...

can't pull certain things when most of the people are black, and y'all gotta move right.

I’ll add and say why the South gravitated more towards the west sound than the northeast because the music had a southern vibe to it. G-Funk? That’s some Cadillac shyt in the sticks talk.
G-funk has (east central) midwest origins.
Erick Sermon also contributed to it indirectly. Ain't no cadillac in the sticks, just funk moving from Buffalo NY and Dayton, OH to Cali.

The chit’ling circuit doesn’t ring a bell? Nor does James Brown?

Music had to get popping down south before it made it to the mainstream uppity cacs.

To discredit southern influences in West Coast culture and music is fukked up.

There are some but that's not where funk came from.
Funk is from the rust belt.

I've found the Non Southerners who constantly call the South backwards are ironically some of the dumber denizens of their respective sub regions, reeks of a punching under mentality.
there's plenty of genuine issues in Southern society to criticize but those types normally are just looking for someone to look down on.

Same here, first generation, grew up looking up to folks from Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, etc, made me who I am. The hell I look like dissing the South?

On the subject of this thread, this has been an issue for some of us since the Great Migration. Some saw the migration North as the beginning of a new Black identity, so disassociating with the South was a necessity to forging a new urban based identity that wanted little to do with our “country” past.

Let’s be real, from about the 1960’s to the early 2000’s the urban North had a monopoly on what was considered new, Black, and cool. Not to mention there was a strain within some of the so-called “conscious” movements that developed up North that held disdain with anything Southern. So eventually Soul Food became Slave Food, Southern speech gets mocked and viewed as ignorant slave speech, “Country” becomes an insult, Hoodoo gets written off as crazy shyt the old folks believe, Northern Blacks become “militant”, Southern Blacks become “meek and docile”, etc.

nikkas basically got seddity and adopted White viewpoints but justified it under the guise of being “conscious”, “militant”, “educated”.
:mjpls:
Basically what I said in another thread. Good post.

All I need to know when I see a black person shytting on the South and the people
Yea, I honestly knew what it was with him when finding out he was “half” AA. When those who aren’t native to the US or have parents not native to the US say the things they say about the south or AA’s, I figure they either got it from white folks, they’re just copying what AA’s up there say (because that’s who they try to model themselves after), or they got it from their non native parents.

I think to make it easier to comprehend we can break it down like this:

  • “Product A” costs $10,000 in New York and median wage is $10.00/hour.
  • “Product A” costs $1000 in “The South” area but median wage is $1.00/hour
So “Product A” ends up being equally unobtainable for natives of both areas because the wages scale based on cost of living. However...the person from New York can take advantage of the situation by taking their increased earnings and buying Product A in “The South” which is what many people end up doing. The end result of this is usually negative though because it drives the demand for Product A up in the lower market, which increases ithe price, and makes it even more unobtainable for the native population...residents in Southern California are doing this to the Real Estate market in Las Vegas right this moment. The 300k houses are unobtainable for the average Las Vegan but to a Southern California it’s like “I can afford that in my sleep because all the houses in my neighborhood are 600k”. @Elim Garak

None of this applies to the south

Man where do y'all nikkas be at? Y'all southern family members must live in real shytholes. Y'all gotta stop acting like the poorest part of the Mississippi delta represents the entirety of these two states.

Wtf we got plenty of colleges, the TVA keeps plenty of power as well as plenty of other power plants. If a person doesn’t have those amenities it’s because they CHOOSE to live an isolated life.

I have a way better quality of life in a southern city as opposed to
Buffalo, Milwaukee etc.

Act like it ain’t bums in the Catskills and rural PA living the same way you described us.
I'm explicitly talking about Southern ghettoes, I prefaced that in the previous sentence.
I'm well aware that the entirety of the South isn't hell, the same for the North, hence the first two sentences of my post.

I was correcting you.... if you’re a fan of misinformation then.... have at it

No you were not, you were just being a contrarian. Clearly things are less expensive in the south which is why many people work in “the north” their entire career because of higher wages but retire in the South so that their retire money stretches farther. Just compare home prices between Long Beach, CA and Atlanta, GA...a fixer upper in the LBC goes for the same price as a huge house in the ATL.

Nah... I was correcting you... and you’d be wise not to use that formula you posted in an attempt to explain the economic differences between the south and other regions
