1960’s to the early 2000’s the urban North had a monopoly on what was considered new, Black, and cool.

I feel tha overall sentiment of your post but this ain't true. Tha south helped to usher in two eras of funk with James brown and isaac hayes, tha former artist building tha foundation for hip hop, along with fellow southerner Muhammad Ali, and Chattanooga drummer clyde stubblefield. Not to mention southern acts like tha commodores and tha sos band, holding down tha r&b genre in tha 70s and 80s. From tha late 80s till after tupac died ny had to share tha hip hop spotlight with tha west coast. Funny thing is ny nikkas called west coast cats country back then in tha 80s cuz they wore curls and flannel shirts.

I like going down south. Black folks way more friendlier than northern Black folks. The vibe is totally different.

Personally I stopped getting offended because when I hear non-AA’s diss the South it comes off like either typical city vs. country dissing to me, or some monkey see monkey do shyt they picked up from AA’s.


If they’re gonna diss on the slick, why would they keep it regional instead of just dissing us as a whole? Most of them don’t even comprehend our cultural relationship with the South like that. IMO if non-AA’s are doing it, they got it from us who felt the same.

Yeah, but the money moves different. In NYC, the little bit of money you have to pay to live in the projects could, over the same # of yrs, buy you a home in the south. Not so in NYC. That's asset creation we miss out on up here.

I've never looked down on Souther culture, but I don't fukk w/ a lot of the rural fukkery they get into.
Southern ghettoes are genuinely far worse than their Northern counterparts.
I do understand that education and infrastructure access is even more difficult for them than for their Northern brothers and sisters.

Bc the ones that play woke with AA's on the internet or grew up around AA's know they can't just diss all of us. So they diss the most distilled version of us. though i'm not aa, i'm inclined to agree.

i saw a study linked here earlier this month demonstrating that black people in the south have a lower % of white admixture on average than their brothers and sisters in the north/west.

the south also preserves a lot of african cultural and linguistic influences that can't be found anywhere else in america (gullah is just one prominent example).

neither of those facts is meant to suggest that black people in the south are culturally "blacker" or "closer" to their roots, however. i just find it strange that black people from the north look down on their southern cousins when the great migration began only 100 years ago. 100 years is a drop in the bucket.
