Southern nikkas started rapping first. Blowfly nikka pay homage. Also y'all was sampling southern funk. James Brown,Isaac Hayes ECT. Without the south there would be no rap period. Just because y'all repackaged it and put 3 other things with it and named it Hip Hop :sas1::sas2:

Yes and no. People have been rapping for a very long time period at one time it was called toasting. But hip-hop started in NY and it's more to Hip Hop than just rapping.

I feel tha overall sentiment of your post but this ain't true. Tha south helped to usher in two eras of funk with James brown and isaac hayes, tha former artist building tha foundation for hip hop, along with fellow southerner Muhammad Ali, and Chattanooga drummer clyde stubblefield. Not to mention southern acts like tha commodores and tha sos band, holding down tha r&b genre in tha 70s and 80s. From tha late 80s till after tupac died ny had to share tha hip hop spotlight with tha west coast. Funny thing is ny nikkas called west coast cats country back then in tha 80s cuz they wore curls and flannel shirts.
No doubt the South will always be the heart and soul of Black America, no matter what the era, because it’s the root, the source of it all. I’m not by any means saying the South wasn’t holding it down, however the spotlight at that time was mainly on the North(I’m including the West too in that), the whole framing of Black being synonymous with Urban came out of that time period. So places like NYC, LA, Philly, Chicago, Detroit, Oakland, etc. dominated the new narratives being made about Black America.

And that country diss always threw me off because I didn’t understand what was so bad about it. Our parents, grandparents, etc. came from the country. HARD working, God fearing folks who didn’t take no shyt, went through hell and lived in conditions my big city raised spoiled ass couldn’t imagine, why would I be ashamed of that?

Thats kinda my point lol. If you had the same job in a place where the cost of living is less you would make less.
My point is, making less or not, it's more feasible to put the little you might have into a financial vehicle you can pass on. Up here, we're basically bleeding our tiny percentage of earnings into the ground, a total waste. In the south, you might be bleeding too, but there are cups available to catch some of it. Did that make sense? lol

I've never looked down on Souther culture, but I don't fukk w/ a lot of the rural fukkery they get into.
Southern ghettoes are :scust: genuinely far worse than their Northern counterparts.
I do understand that education and infrastructure access is even more difficult for them than for their Northern brothers and sisters. :mjcry:
nikkas from Brownsville have like 10 colleges in a 30 mile radius, and plumbing, internet, and electricity no matter where they go, my Mississippi and Alabama brehs do not :mjcry:
Man where do y'all nikkas be at? Y'all southern family members must live in real shytholes. Y'all gotta stop acting like the poorest part of the Mississippi delta represents the entirety of these two states.

I hate how fast things move up here, it’s like people rush to go nowhere. I like to value my free time and I don’t feel the need to make the most, have the most expensive etc. I just want to live comfortably.

I don’t care if folks take pride in where they are from; as long as I know who I am and where I came from and where I’m going nobody will make me feel inferior

Exactly. I’m the first gen of my family not from the South and I haven’t seen a lot of Black people here who hate on southerners. Our culture here in Cali is too intertwined with the South to even shyt on it without shytting on ourselves. Now dumb ass ignorant people will always say dumb ass ignorant shyt but the average Black American in the West IMO does not hate on Southerners especially anyone born before the 80’s cuz most likely they were raised in the South. Also i hope people don’t confuse hating D4L and other minstrel show type acts with hating the south. All my nikkas come out the wood work when somebody grandma whips out the Oxtails, Baked Mac, and Collars Greens...we just southern folk with different accents and chucks.

Literally everyone I know, including my own family came from the south. My grandfather moved to NYC from La in the 50s and grandmother from Georgia a few years earlier. I remember going to my grandfathers funeral as a youngin in Georgia (grandmother wasn't trying to be buried in La) and seeing all my relatives thinking:

They all look like me :ohhh:

Even cats who aren't AA have relatives in the south. My Haitian brehs stay going to the ATL or Miami to visit family, so no one up here hate on our southern brehs.

We love ya'll :wow: even with the timbs and rat jokes :russ:

Wtf we got plenty of colleges, the TVA keeps plenty of power as well as plenty of other power plants. If a person doesn’t have those amenities it’s because they CHOOSE to live an isolated life.

I have a way better quality of life in a southern city as opposed to
Buffalo, Milwaukee etc.

Act like it ain’t bums in the Catskills and rural PA living the same way you described us.
