We also sampled Frank Sinatra and ACDC. What does that have to do with the current state of hip hop under the control of a southern aesthetic? :sas1:

You talking non-sense AC/DC and Frank Sinatra may have been sampled a few times but James brown was like the backbone of hip hop so many of those early ny records got a James brown beat and who do you think these guys were listening to before hip hop

Yes and no. People have been rapping for a very long time period at one time it was called toasting. But hip-hop started in NY and it's more to Hip Hop than just rapping.
Down here it was called playing the dozens aka ranking on somebody by freestyling. The south was the first on wax to rap and there is no dispute whatsoever.Hip Hop is some NYC made up 4 elements. I'm talking rap not something that comes afterwards.

Yeah the only people I know really staying are those who got established back in the day, and even a lot of them are cashing in on selling their houses to live nice elsewhere for cheap. My generation (I’m 30) missed that boat, everybody I know whose doing good or at least ain’t struggling left and ain’t tryna look back.

I don't get it. If you don't like southern culture that's just what it is. Black culture all around this mothafukka, whether you in the north, south, or west etc.
this is slightly untrue. African American culture is more close to American Southern culture.

i'd guess the two were 70-80% the same. food, language, some traditions, some history etc.

the south is largely AA. nearly half of it's population is African American & i'm sure that's the largest single ethnic group in the region.

LOL The dozens has absolutely nothing to with putting rhymes together.
And second of all toasting was not exclusive to the South. Black Hustler's all over the country would repeat toast that would circulate in the prison and ghettos. Hip Hop is better than just rapping.

Most blacks in the south are bamas. They're just not as sophisticated as blacks up north, though they try their best. It's not :mjpls: to acknowledge that, since doing so opens us up to a discussion of why blacks in the south are so backwards. Clearly, it's a byproduct of white supremacy, the result of living in the former confederacy. :francis:
I'm glad someone reported this bullshyt :scust:

Why do blacks from the East Coast look down on us anyways?

Other than us mocking how funny y'all talk, I never actually heard a person from the South shytting on nikkas from the East Coast.

My point is, making less or not, it's more feasible to put the little you might have into a financial vehicle you can pass on. Up here, we're basically bleeding our tiny percentage of earnings into the ground, a total waste. In the south, you might be bleeding too, but there are cups available to catch some of it. Did that make sense? lol

I think to make it easier to comprehend we can break it down like this:

  • “Product A” costs $10,000 in New York and median wage is $10.00/hour.
  • “Product A” costs $1000 in “The South” area but median wage is $1.00/hour
So “Product A” ends up being equally unobtainable for natives of both areas because the wages scale based on cost of living. However...the person from New York can take advantage of the situation by taking their increased earnings and buying Product A in “The South” which is what many people end up doing. The end result of this is usually negative though because it drives the demand for Product A up in the lower market, which increases ithe price, and makes it even more unobtainable for the native population...residents in Southern California are doing this to the Real Estate market in Las Vegas right this moment. The 300k houses are unobtainable for the average Las Vegan but to a Southern California it’s like “I can afford that in my sleep because all the houses in my neighborhood are 600k”. @Elim Garak

Exactly. I’m the first gen of my family not from the South and I haven’t seen a lot of Black people here who hate on southerners. Our culture here in Cali is too intertwined with the South to even shyt on it without shytting on ourselves. Now dumb ass ignorant people will always say dumb ass ignorant shyt but the average Black American in the West IMO does not hate on Southerners especially anyone born before the 80’s cuz most likely they were raised in the South. Also i hope people don’t confuse hating D4L and other minstrel show type acts with hating the south. All my nikkas come out the wood work when somebody grandma whips out the Oxtails, Baked Mac, and Collars Greens...we just southern folk with different accents and chucks.
I’ll add and say why the South gravitated more towards the west sound than the northeast because the music had a southern vibe to it. G-Funk? That’s some Cadillac shyt in the sticks talk.

It’s what New Yorkers and foreign folks have down to South Florida.

We have an affordable homes crisis.
