He isn't missing much or anything significant IMO, I am just not a fan of his. Not my vibe.
Im a Wale fan and I know what you're saying. But his lyricism on The Body is top notch. The wordplay is ridiculous:
He's an above average lyricist, but he's not in the elites with guys like Kendrick or Cole either.
His voice just kinda annoys me, he kinda sound like shenanay on the mic.
His lyrics are slick, but he lacks that certain something that makes them stand out.
That being said, i like his new song, girls on drugs.

It's not what he lacks, it's how he presents himself. I used to think he was the future back in his mixtape days. shyt I still bump 100 miles and Running. But when he signed to MMG he lost that hunger and started spouting pseudo intellectual "poetry". It's like he tries too hard now.
there's no subtlety in that metaphor, he keeps reminding us every line what he's comparing, so it's not that funI doubt if the average listener realizes the entire song is a metaphor.
On the microphone and as an artist I think he lacks any form or feeling of being genuine. His "deep, flip flop on a milk crate" style verses come off too mechanical. they don't feel like genuine poetic creations. to say that in your opinion he rivals Lupe Fiasco, I am at liberty to utilize the following smiley;
Lupe Fiasco rhyme schemes, as well as the plot's he intertwines into those schemes is like when the Monolith appeared on earth to primitive man/ape in the 2001 space odyssey. Lupe so outside the realm of capacity that Wale could contrive that it's not even valid for debate.
I do not believe Wale is garbage, no not at all. creatively he does gleam from time to time, prime example is his "about nothing" series and how he tied it to Seinfeld. Wale is a mediocre rapper, and that's being typed with no hate or ill-will towards him. he just isn't dope enough in my books.![]()
