what do cities with harsh winters do about their homeless problem in the winter?

In the city I live in in Michigan they have shelters for really cold days like last winter when we had a week straight at or about zero during the day and well below zero at night. I don't think those shelters are exclusively for homeless though. When it's not so harsh you'll see a lot of tents outside as well.

You can when most people don't care. Most people are too busy trying to not end up in the same situation. The idea you proposing sounds good until you start to see those taxes coming out your check. And that won't address the issue of people who don't want to be in a shelter. Do we start forcing people into shelters or lock them up?

The funding will always be an issue, but the money is there, and truthfully, for those who would be paying more in taxes, there are always ways to duck that, or mitigate it. Yes, it is an involuntary commitment, it does sound, and maybe is, somewhat dystopian, but for those who are actually living on the streets, or cars, it would ideally be a much safer place, where they can attempt to sort themselves out, and re enter society. What can be done for thousands living in destitution, with no chance of getting back up? There has to be a place for people who fall between the cracks, whether they want to be there or not, they don't just get to live in the street. It isn't something a civilized society should neither condone nor ignore.

This should be interesting. What Brazil did was evil, I can't wait what the world say's about LA hosting Olympics with homeless all over the city.

I dont think LA let's the problem last until then. It'd be a real stain on the city. I think it's part of the reason they deferred to 2028. They were supposed to have 2024 and Paris 2028, but LA requested to switch and Paris said cool. I think LA wants more time to fix issues like this

I agree but that is what the majority of society is doing and will continue to do until it starts to affect them. COL isn't going down and most jobs are not paying an income needed for living here. So until something changes people are going to keep living on the street.

In the next 20 yrs or so Rich people will start hiring private armies to protect them. i know it sounds like some anime shyt, but this is logically the next step.

I completely sounds like the next step. We already have people saying ship the homeless out to be someone else's problem. Folks really want a future similar to Children of Men. I pray they never fall on hard times.

Wealthy inequality, lack of living wages, less jobs and housing market

Those just a few but those are some major factors

America gonna look weird in 20 years. More and more people can't afford to live here
This but imo the majority of the people on Skid Row in DTLA and in the other homeless encampments that's now spread out all over the city--- They are mentally gone breh. Checked out. Mentally ill, skitzo, drug addicts. I've driven through skid row even drove family members through it just so they know what's going on and be thankful that they're still in one piece mentally and psychically. There's definitely a healthy percentage of people that lost their job, home/apartment and are now sleeping on the street but the majority of what I've seen they are checked out upstairs and/or on heavy drugs. And all that services, shelters, jobs needed, etc talk is not going to help a homeless person that's now become a ghoul while walking the streets screaming at an invisible person then taking a shyt on the sidewalk in front of people. Its not a pc thing to say but the majority are simply have become non hire-able and will never work, get a crib, pay rent, etc.

-also the majority of the homeless here in Cali aren't even from Cali. Other cities all across the US have fixed their smaller homeless problem by literally buying/giving them a Greyhound ticket to LA or SF. That's a fact. Also people who's insurance and money ran out while they were in hospitals, mental and regular, get dumped/dropped off in Skid Row here in LA. Its deep man
