Homelessness and drug activity has always been a problem in The City but it’s just being magnified now because “white people” either..
Are living in cars because they can’t make rent even with six figure jobs..
Or
Are on opioids..
The Tenderloin is probably one of the most notorious parts of the City..
Open air drug use has been there for decades..
It’s literally a couple streets over from the Mall and tourists trap on Powell ST..
16th Street@ Mission has always been fukkery..
The same goes for Civic Center..
If you have ever been to the City..
You know in your heart that what you are talking will not work..
People who are homeless due to financial hardships are not going to want to live in the same places as drug addicts or the mentally ill..
Most of the mental hospitals have been closed throughout California..
Then you have to factor in this tech, gentrification money..
My homie already told me about the fukkery that has happened at the new stadium..
So trying to turn Oracle into some kind of “shelter” ain’t happening because they are trying everything under the sun to get the last of the black population out of Oakland expeditiously..
They are definitely not trying to do or even consider your plan..
The Bay was “affordable” back in late 90s up until the recession of 08 and the tech boom of 10/11..
This is all about greed..

I live in upscale area of downtown San Diego, one of the most expensive, and saw a dude hitting the pipe on the side of a condo building at 10:30 AM, on a Sunday, which is like the town fair, everyone comes out for coffee, brunch, walk the dog. This guy was laying down and hitting the pipe like it was his last one, which is not the first time I've seen someone injecting, or smoking, but the most blatant.

I think homelessness should be outlawed, and people should be taken to shelters for rehab/mental illness treatment, or re rentry to society.

Outlaw homelessness. How bout we just round them up on some Soylent Green dystopian future type shyt.

Well, that is kind of the idea. It's unsafe and indefensible to have them on the streets, the rate of intra and inter homeless violence is staggering in metro areas. The shelters would, in my vision, (which is obviously very expensive) offer cohesive treatment for mental illness, drug and alcohol addiction, and job training. It's a re entry to society program. The ones that can work, will do local services, like construction, and cleaning for wages. It isn't that I am without empathy, quite the opposite, but there needs to be decisive action taken. You can't just have counter societies living openly in the streets. They are vulnerable to exploitation, violence, addiction.

I remember some idiot on here not too long ago saying besides NYC/Cali/Miami/Texas the United States is a 3rd world country. I guess he forgot about the miles worth of tent homes across California city blocks. Not to mention the hundreds of people (at minimum) in the California gig Economy living in their vehicles.

It's tough but they will have to leave California. Rent control will not save them from already sky-high Rents that *only* go up 5-10 percent every year.

The projects and the hood is considered luxury condos and middle class homes in 3rd world countries.

For over 50 plus years US has ignored the homeless epidemic and the poverty rates has soared. In the news all presidents claim they have helped people get jobs and keep poverty and unemployment down to low percentages...none of that is true. A few years ago the unemployment rate was over 110 million Americans without jobs. People claim it's not true but the homeless population is growing...and for a reason.

I'd argue unfortunately at some point these people are not capable of functioning in society like normal people.

It's sad but I've started to lose my empathy little by little for homeless individuals because I deal with them on a daily basis. A guy begs for something, I give him a coffee and a sandwich, the next week he's there begging me for the same thing. Even worse I see the same homeless folks on the 4-6 blocks I go on around work there for MONTHS.

Not to mention that some of them have harassed some of my female colleagues. One of my coworkers, who's a male, ex-Army, punched one of these homeless dudes out for getting in his face after telling him to get away.

But I mean people are bleeding hearts and enabling these individuals to stick around but also making it unpleasurable for others who live here.

No easy solutions here. A large number of homeless people have made choices and continue to make choices that keep them in their situation. There are shelters and places that hand out food and clothes all of over this country. It’s not an issue of having a lack of places or resources for them. I know it’s fukked up, but you can’t save everybody. Gonna have to separate the folks who want help from those who want to run the streets.
